About Me
Pocket Change (1993-2003)History of Pocket Change by KirkO.K. So here is the not so brief history of Pocket Change. Matt and I grow up down the street from each other in Sacramento CA , in the 80’s, skateboarding and listening to music. Early 90’s roll around Matt starts to learn the bass, I start to learn the drums. Matt and I play in a couple of lousy garage punk bands, (No Place, Kangaroo Religion). In 92 Matt joins local band Jalopy. Jalopy breaks up and Matt and I form band called Fuse with friend Danny Weise on guitar. (Matt-Vocals,Bass/ Kirk-Drums/ Danny-Guitar). Quickly we change our name to Pocket Change. Pocket Change plays first show July 4th, 1993. Pocket Change record there first EP in the Fall of 93. Matt’s older brother Marty joins band on 2nd guitar.(Matt-Vocals,Bass/ Kirk-Drums/Danny-Guitar/ Marty-Guitar). Danny would soon leave band. Pocket Change would remain a 3 piece for several years.(Matt-Vocals,Bass/ Kirk-Drums/ Marty-Guitar). Between 94 and 97 Pocket Change releases 2 more EP’s (43 EP, and A Moment of Clarity EP),record a full length which is never released due to poor recording quality, and play a whole load of shows around the west coast with the likes of The Offspring, AFI, Sublime, Sense Field, Jawbreaker, Face To Face. Cake, etc...New Year’s day 1998, long time friend Mike Fernandez joins band on 2nd guitar.(Matt-Vocals,Bass/ Kirk-Drums/ Marty-Guitar/ Mike-Guitar). A few months later Pocket Change record and release their first full length (Golden). Pocket Change play more shows. “Golden†is remixed, redesigned and re-released on Resurrection A.D. Records in 1999. More shows and more years pass by. Pocket Change record 2nd full length (A Moment of Clarity “part 2â€) in 2001. Soon after Marty leaves Pocket Change. Long time friend Troy Backes joins on Guitar.(Matt-Vocals,Bass/ Kirk-Drums/ Mike-Guitar/ Troy-Guitar). 2002 rolls around. A Moment of Clarity full length still un-released. Matt, Mike, Troy, and I record 2 news songs and we start to make free EPs with the 2 new songs and a couple of songs from the Moment of Clarity sessions, and we give them out at shows. Mike leaves Pocket Change in the fall of 2002. Pocket Change carries on the rest of year as a 3 piece once again. (Matt-Vocals,Bass/ Kirk-Drums/ Troy-Guitar).
Enter 2003. Pocket Change’s ten year anniversary. We decide to call it quits. Thus Zero To Heaven
is born. Members of Zero To Heaven are (Matt Sertich-Vocals, Bass/ Kirk Janowiak-Drums, Backing Vocals/ Ryan Nethaway-Guitar/ Patrick O'Neill- Guitar, Keyboards, Backing Vocals).
