About Me

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~He was the mightiest man of valor in that same day of this our life, stalwart and stately. A stout wave-walker he bade make ready. Yon battle-king, said he, far o'er the swan-road he fain would seek, The noble monarch who needed men! The Atheling's journey by prudent folk was barely blamed, though they loved him dear; they whetted the hero, and hailed good omens. And now the bold one from bands of Geats comrades chose, the keenest of warriors e'er he could find; with fourteen men the sea-wood he sought, and, sailor proved, led them on to the land's confines. -Thou art end and remnant of all our race the Waegmunding name. For Wyrd hath swept them, all my line, to the land of doom, earls in their glory: I after them go....~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -The Epic of Beowulf
My Interests
Cultures of antiquity, language, political intrigue, athletics, history, philosophy, art, musical-composition, writing to friends, self-improvement.......
I'd like to meet:
Nice people--I really mean that. Note: I generally don't add people unless they write. (That especially goes to all of the phoney profiles trying to inundate me with spam!!)
Music:
Anything burned and illegal.
Movies:
The Fountain. Just ask Manuela and Adam; they will agree that this is the best film ever! :-p
Television:
I watch a little bit of the news mostly. I try to watch U.F.C. and the history channel when I can but I never really watch any program with regularity.
Books:
Arrian, Polybius, Xenophon (the historian), Ovid, Virgil, Livy, Seutonius, Aeschylus, Euripides, etc. Here are the ones I remember: A Clockwork Orange, 1984, Brave New World, Dubliners (Joyce), Henry V and Hamlet, Dune and all of the ones that followed that one, some Erich Fromme, a little Dostoevsky, Wittgenstein Reader, Kinski Uncut, Beowulf, Mesopotamian Mythology, Greek Mythology, Norse Mythology, Dogen's "moon in a dew-drop", Books on religion and sociology of religion etc.....Books on history of warfare (Osprey mostly). Graphic Novels: Arkham Asylum, The Watchmen, The Killing Joke, Dark Knight Returns, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and so on.......
Heroes:
The few that contend with the many. The relentless. The undying. The immortal.
The Fountain
  I just finished watching Aranofsky's The Fountain.  It really is one of the best films I think I've seen in ages.  Its subject matter is profound and its story has a very he...
Well, just back from Australia but the wander-lust isn't sated yet. I'm thinking Japan or possibly Ireland. More than likely I might get to Ireland though and maybe drop in on some of my English mat...
