I love photography and go back and forth between both my digital camera and my 35mm, and black and white and colour. The world looks different through my lense. I am a History major, and am fascinated by 20th century politics and the ongoing evolution of pop culture. I love the way what is going on in the world affects our entertainment (i.e.: movies, music). I adore traveling and recently got back from a 2 week trip to Italy with my beautiful friend Taylor, and am hoping to make it to Greece next year. I enjoy writing, and I live for great movies, great books, and people watching from a table at a coffee shop on the boardwalk in Pacific Beach.
People who contribute something worthwhile to my life. People who are considerate, straight forward, take responsibility for their words AND their actions, and know how to spell and say please and thank you.Oh yeah, and Al Gore and Howard Dean. And maybe the guy who plays Jim on The Office. And I would give just about anything to take a trip back in time to 1963 to see The Rat Pack performing at The Sands in Vegas.
I can think of few things I love more. I like many different kinds of music. I am currently into classic stuff like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, but also enjoy numerous jazz, folk rock, hip hop and rap, country and cheesy 80's love songs. One of my favorite bands of all time is this Canadian group called Blue Rodeo. They blow me away every time I hear them. They are one of those bands that sound better live than on their albums, and they sound amazing on their albums. I love David Gray, John Mayer, Our Lady Peace, Low Millions, Anna Nalick, Holly Palmer and Maroon 5, and last summer I saw Stevie Nicks at Coors Amphitheatre in San Diego and was reminded of how much I adore Fleetwood Mac. I am leaving out about a million artists;I have found so many great musicians on MySpace like Rich Price, Alansmithee, Tim Blane, Justin Hopkins, Dar Williams, Contaminated Souls. MySpace music is the best! Also, I love the way music is used in movies. When done correctly, it completely gives me shivers down my spine (ie - "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel in the movie "Say Anything".
I am a big fan of films based on things that really happened. As a history major, I love the way it makes its way into our day to day lives on so many levels. I love movies that teach us something, or take a political standpoint to raise awareness about some issue. I am constantly floored by the movies made by Participant Productions and loved "An Inconvenient Truth". I also saw "The Road to Guantanamo" which was heartwrenching. Sometimes I am just so overcome with anger over what is going on in the world.Past favorites incluse Joyeux Noel, Tsotsi, It's All Gone Pete Tong, Closer, Mad Hot Ballroom, The Sea Inside, Love Actually, Crazy Beautiful, Life Is Beautiful, Almost Famous, Born Into Brothels, Meet Joe Black, Billy Elliot, Great Escape, Y Tu Mama Tambien, The Pianist, A Long Engagement, Nowhere in Africa, Bowling for Columbine, Titanic, Walk The Line, Brokeback Mountain, and The Motorcycle Diaries. For the most part, I prefer movies that remind you that they are someone's creation, not a zillion dollar blockbuster with some big names and a horrendous storyline. Storytelling is an art, and to see that story unfold before you on screen is riveting (when well done, of course).
I just started finished watching the first and second seasons of Lost and am obsessed. What a creepy show. I also enjoying Dirt and The Riches (on FX). Grey's Anatomy, Prison Break, The Office...that's about it for now. I miss Six Feet Under, Over There, Sex and the City, and the old days of The O.C. and Ally McBeal.
"The Thorn Birds" by Colleen McCullough, "Remembering Blue" by Connie May Fowler, "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" by Judy Blume, "Fall On Your Knees" by Ann-Marie McDonald, "Forgotton Heroes" by Thomas Mueller, "Fast Food Nation", by Eric Schlosser, "As The Crow Flies" by Jeffrey Archer, "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold and "London 1945" by Maureen Waller.
People who are not afraid and follow their hearts, who don't conform to the mantra of corporate America, and do what they are good at.
