Natural Dyer, Spinner, Weaver, Knitter

About Me

I am a happily married woman who loves weaving on my two looms (a Harrisville Design 22" 4-harness and a Harold 40" eight-harness), spinning on my two spinning wheels (Kromski and Lendrum), doing natural dyes, knitting, fabric construction, textiles in general, getting back to the basic things in life that have real meaning, reading period mysteries, listening to Celtic music and Prairie Home Companion, and making new friends with similar interests.I also am co-writer, editor and letterer of the comic book, Johnny Saturn. www.johnnysaturn.com for those who are interested.

Why I Host Dye Day

http://www.geocities.com/scottstory/benita/dye.html

I'd like to meet:

Fiber enthusiasts who love weaving, spinning, natural dyeing, knitting and learning more about these subjects. I am also wanting to meet those people who are interested in finding locally gorwn/raised food and/or growing their own.

Music:

Celtic, blue grass, old gospel and blues.

Movies:

I'm really more into documentaries that let me learn new things. The movies I've seen that I like are: Hairspray (the new one), The Producers, Victor/Victoria, The Bird Cage, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, etc. I love the Brother Cadfael mystery series as well as the Miss Marple series starring Joan Hickson and the Poirot series starring David Suchet.

Television:

I don't watch television. I hate being tied down to someone else's schedule for entertainment, besides I found my own imagination better than most television writers and prefer making up my own stories.

Books:

Anything by Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Dorothy Sayers, Ellis Peters, Elizabeth Peters, Jan Karon, Gene Stratton-Porter and Miss Read. I love mysteries, but mostly if they are set someplace in the past. I'm not as fond of modern stories, but I do like Laura Childs and Monica Ferris.

Heroes:

Anyone who has the guts to live life to the fullest, no matter what advice they receive from others to conform to what the rest of the world deems as safe and normal. My motto is "As long as it isn't illegal, immoral and no one gets hurt, go for it!" You only live once!

Learning How To Cook

It's not that I'm learning how to cook, because I "learned how to cook" when I was about 12 years old and did the vast majority of the cooking for my family while in junior high and high school (my br...

Dye Day 2007

Monday was Dye Day.  Who would have thought that the first weekend in October would have temperatures in the 90's in central Indiana?  Usually, we are wearing jackets and gloves while we bui...

Taming the Wild Beast

Inside all of us is a wild animal called "Self Discipline."  In my case, I imagine it as a wild horse--beautiful, willful and strong.    Some people learn to work with this beast at a...

Week Two - Falling off and getting back on the horse

Well, since I said I was going to be held accountable by anyone who reads this, then I need to be honest and say I gained a pound.  And, yes, I did cheat.  So, now I'm on Phase Two of the So...

Well, I stuck to the Phase In South Beach Diet very well all week, until the weekend hit.  While I didn't over eat, I basically, ignored the Phase I restrictions and ate what I wanted within reas...

Getting It All Together

Let's begin at the beginning here.  For starters, I weighed 172 this morning.  While this is down about 14 pounds from this time last year, it isn't nearly where I need to be for my age, hei...

Belonging to a group of like-minded people

Because of my interests and disinterests, I have always been the odd-man out where ever I've worked.  Even with my own family, there is little in common between me and the rest of the group. &nbs...
