Music: the kickass kind.
World affairs -- current and historical -- through a Black and Red political lens. My obsession is Israel and the mutifarious ways it sucks.
Japanese (and Japanese-style) pro wrestling. Territory-era american pro wrestling.
Foody food.
Not cars. Not tattoos. Not bicycles. Not beards.
nobody in particular.ahem.what?
DIY-rooted, non-contrived (i.e. not "tough-guy"/tattoo-centric), melodic-but-rough, catchy punk; authentic rockabilly, desperate rock and roll, country blues, hillbilly, honky tonk, so-called outlaw country, some crazier/wittier western swing, Black rock and roll, pre-war blues, jump blues, barrelhouse, boogie, fast/dirty R&B vocal group stuff, (mostly southern) soul, metal of the rockin' and/or majestic sort, straight up rock and roll, some ska and assorted other embarassing stuff I won't mention without a few drinks.
I'm nixing my representative litany; if you're really that curious for specifics, look through my "friends".
Movies that actually make me (me!) cry (e.g. A Very Long Engagement, 21 Grams, Raging Bull, Paths of Glory, The Thin Red Line and Dead Man).
Classic-period Films Noir. I own lots of it.
Wire-flying Hong Kong movies.
Comedies, smart and not-so-smart. I love Norm MacDonald's box office disaster Dirty Work, but I also like Rushmore and Happiness.
Other favorites include Starship Troopers, everything David Lynch and Werner Herzog I've seen, Gummo, the original Scarface and Jacob's Ladder.
I have a giant TV and no cable. Sometimes I watch sports.
My favorite ex-shows are Twin Peaks, The Dukes of Hazzard, Crime Story, the original Twilight Zone and Monty Python's Flying Circus.
I haven't been reading much.
In the past, I've dug fiction by Thomas Pynchon, J.G. Ballard, Tom Robbins, Kurt Vonnegut and a guy named John King.
Nick Tosches wrote the two best books about music penned thus far in human history: Hellfire and Country.
I've read and enjoyed lots of political-ish non-fiction. Other than the usual (Chomsky, Foucault) my preoccupation with Palestine/Israel has led me to read stuff by Nur Masalha, Benny Morris, Norman Finkelstein, Ilan Pappe, Tanya Reinhart and Tom Segev. Other non-Palestine-but-politically-engaged authors who do it right include Doug Henwood, Terry Eagleton, Anthony Giddens, David Cole, and David Garland.
Nobody. Ok, maybe this guy.
