Cast of Thousands

Make the words feel like water....

About Me

Cast of Thousands is a San Francisco-based post-hardcore/indie rock trio whose combination of melody and dark imagery has earned it a growing following through robust recordings and intense live performances.
The band uses dynamic rhythms and boy-girl vocal harmonies to accentuate their hard-yet-melodic style. During performances, they churn out a combination of hooks, volume, and intensity.
Cast of Thousands has opened for popular national acts such as Smoking Popes, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Karate, and The City On Film and performed at esteemed Bay Area venues including San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall, Slim's, Red Devil Lounge, and The Bottom Of The Hill. In 2007, Cast of Thousands was chosen as one of the Top 5 Local Bands in modern rock radio station Live 105's annual Not So Silent Night contest.
This Is Where I Confess
This Is Where I Confess is the first full-length CD release from post-hardcore/indie rock trio Cast of Thousands. The 11-track album was produced by Cast of Thousands and Willie Samuels, recorded by Willie Samuels at Nu-Tone Recordings in Pittsburgh, CA and mastered by Kenneth Lee at Ken Lee Mastering in Oakland, CA. This Is Where I Confess can be purchased online from our store or CDbaby , or as downloads from iTunes . It can also be found at Amoeba and Rasputin's music stores in the SF Bay Area.
***Press for "This is Where I Confess" from Boston Progress Radio*** We’re just about half way through Asian Pacific American Heritage month and our crew has been diligently writing about the experiences and contributions of Asian Americans and other randomness about how we rock (Go crew!). So speaking of rocking, let’s throw the spotlight on this kick ass band, Cast of Thousands. I’ve been listening to their album, “This Is Where I Confess” and all I can say is ..m/ (I love this function on gchat, try it if you don’t already know it)! This San Francisco based trio consists of Burt Hashiguchi on guitar, Derrick Hostetter on drums, Jennifer Yee on bass, and all three on vocals. Some of their influences range from from Fugazi, Faith No More, Smashing Pumpkins, and Radiohead to vitamin water, undying loves, wacky coworkers, and broken wrists. Last month, they played at an album release party for fellow APA rockers, Mud.I dig this album for its sometimes hard core yet smooth flowing rhythms. I listened to it for the first time on my iPod on the way home from work after a pretty long day so I didn’t know what to expect. I immediately took to the sounds and unwound and rocked out all the way home. My only pause was during one of the slower tracks “The Time We Have is Counting Down Now” because I noticed that I had to stop nodding my head as I was to the previous tracks (Yes, you may find me on the T oblivious and having my own listening party). I admit I had to skip it so I could pick up my mood again but I’ve grown to like this song as I listened more. I personally enjoy ”Overnight Lows,” “44 Frames,” and “Pure As the Undriven Snow.” For those of you who are not used to harder rock may find “Icarii” rough on your ears but it’s a real ass kicker for the gym. Word on the streets is they are working on a new album so I’m looking forward to that. Hopefully they will grace us with an east coast performance when that happens. Until then, you can find me on the B line possibly rocking out to this cast, ..m/!
