About Me
Everyone is born with a talent, or talents that are used through out life, but only a chosen group of people have the ability to hone these attributes into something amazing and share them with the world. Daggerz, the Chesapeake, Virginia based lyricist has been a life long member of the Hip-Hop culture. Born in June of 1988, in Portsmouth, VA to a Jamaican father and a Puerto Rican mother, Dagz has the love of music in his blood. He remembers the first album his mother bought for him back in 1998, it was Jay-Z's "Vol.2...Hard Knock Life." After hearing this album a young Daggerz began to come to form by listening to the best, worst, and most unheard of artists in Hip-Hop. It was only three years later, in 2001, that Dagz picked up a pen after hearing, Moe The Slayer, one of his best-friends, spit a couple bars.
Daggerz officially began recording in late 2002 with Kompressa of Dis Is Virginia Entertainment(D.I.V.E. Records). Over the next three years Dagz would continue to fine-tune his flow, put more pop behind his punch, and sharpen his metaphores, while making classic Virginia underground music for the locals to bop to.
In the spring of 2006, Daggerz released his first mixtape titled "Blood of a Warrior, Heart of a God." As a junior in high school Dagz felt as if he could get a buzz around the student body handing out free copies of his first release. He remembers the release to be a hit with his high school peers. With tracks like "Nothing I Can Say," produced by Majik of Café Society, and "What's Good" by Mel V. B of the same camp, no one would argue otherwise.
Later that year, Daggerz began recording at Bless Jones' "Audio Dungeon Studio" for better quality, and to network with more of the local artists. Here, he re-grouped with friends from back when he was younger, such as, Bless, B. Rascoe, A Tillz, and Weaz Bean. Also during that time he hooked up and has had a family like relationship with artists such as Megaphores, Slim Music, and Da Kemistry, whom have all collaborated on tracks with him.
In June of 2007, Daggerz released his second mixtape entitled, "Grind Season." "Grind Season" is his first official, pressed up, and mastered project. Still slinging his mixtapes for free out of his trunk to students at Norfolk State University, where he currently attends school, Dagz got an even bigger following for this mixtape, not to mention his internet following from myspace and datpiff.com. Daggerz wanted to showcase his versatility with the "Grind Season Mixtape," and tracks such as hard hitting "AK-47" featuring Mega and self conscious, soulful songs such as "Danger" only added to the weight that the young lyricist already carries effortlessly.
Daggerz believes in the strength of versatility. He believes that if one is able to do more than one thing, then one should take doing so into consideration. His versatility always keeps him on the radars of rappers across the country, mainly for his ability to adapt perfectly to any track, this ability alone, along with the skills of a lyricist makes Daggerz single-handedly one of the best on the mic. Dagz is destined to be at the pinnacle of success when it comes to music, his potent verses and catchy hooks makes him an artist to be on the look out for!!!
