So how did Steve-O, a.k.a. Stephen Glover, come to be one of the most controversial artists of his time? Ask him that and he'll tell you, "I stole a video camera from my father when I was fifteen years old". Hardly sooner than Steve-O hit puberty, he began producing videos of skateboarding, which featured an array of comical and dangerous behavior. After graduating from high school in England, a year at University of Miami taught Steve-O only that he wasn't cut out for college life. So he decided to drop out and try making it as a stuntman. Although he was able to put together volumes of stunt footage on his own, a career didn't seem to be materializing. So he decided to go to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, to "bring legitimacy to his idiotic home video footage". Graduating from clown college led to an illustrious career as a performer both in the circus and on Royal Carribean Cruise Lines, but never led Steve-O to stray from the video camera, or the stunts.
Determined to build a career in television and film, he sent his self-produced videos to anyone he thought might watch them. When one of these videos landed in the hands of Jeff Tremaine (Jackass creator/director/producer) a light began to flicker at the end of the tunnel. With an "inch of opportunity", Steve-O wrote himself a "mile of work" to do for Tremaine and Jackass. When MTV rejected his more dangerous ideas, Steve-O slated them for production, to be featured in his own "too hot for tv" video series and on stage during his own "Don't Try This At Home Tour". Promoting these ventures, as well as his own cable television show (Wildboyz) led to numerous appearances on "big talk shows" (including Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, and Howard Stern) and, ultimately, made "Steve-O" a household name. Yeah Dude!
