Music has been a part of my life from the beginning. I have played and performed since the age of 3. I began playing guitar at 3 and have played off and on my whole life. It all began with a missionary my parents knew from their church. He was in town for a year or so and began teaching me guitar. It's hard to imagine a 3 year old being able to play very much but I owe Gene Tierney for instilling the basics and especially the love of playing into my soul. He was called away to some 3rd world country and I was left with only brooms to play on.
From the age of 3, my brother and I would perform in shows in Colorado Springs, Co. with such Western stars as Tex Ritter, Rex Allen, The Sons of the Pioneers, etc. We would warm up the audience with 3 or 4 tunes and then the stars would take the stage. So I got that love pf performing at a very early age.
When I was 6, my uncle caught me playing along to the radio with his broom and told my parents, "Get this boy a guitar before he wears out all the brooms!!!" For my 7th birthday I got a 4-string treble acoustic guitar and began playing along with Chet Atkins records and any other style I came in contact with. At 9, I began playing lap steel guitar and this gave me knowledge of the fretboard. I played and performed around the state for the next 4 1/2 years. Among my teachers were Wild Bill Elliott (of music & movie fame) and his son Jack Elliott.
At age 16, I and my friends put together a rock band called The Crusaders. I still swear to this day that we would have become huge stars if we could just have been able to afford some decent equipment. I wrote 4 songs with them but have lost those long ago. At 19, I began writing poems and putting music to them. Since that time, I have written over 2000 songs of all styles. I have been thru several bands...there was a C,S N & Y-type band, a country-rock band called Country Cream, a 3-piece heavy metal band called Johnnee Flashe & the Space Kadettes and an over-endeavor fusion/rock band called Grey Havens that was an unbelievable concept but impossible to keep the musicians together at that time.
During that time, I also recorded for blues legend Willie Dixon for 3 1/2 years. He was like a second father to me and that experience greatly enhanced my life.
In 1970, I met and became very good friends with guitarist extraordinaire Tommy Bolin. Over the next years until his death, we supported each other emotionally as we each went thru the trials and tribulations of the music world. I was negotiating with several record labels when Tommy tragically died in Miami. That tragedy, mixed with my search for spirituality led me to leave the material music scene. I spent 17 years as a Vedic brahmana priest in temples all over the U.S. and India. During that time I did alot of music but not so much with guitar. I played harmonium, tamboura and other Eastern instruments. This added a whole new dimension to my musical soul.
Lately, I have been concentrating on recording my many songs and now am ready to market them to free myself up for full-time music. I am in a blues/rock/fusion band called BluMantra with like-minded musicians. We have done some recording with Sun Mountain Music and there is a BluMantra album on iTunes as well as several other internet markets. I have also put out 3 other albums of solo songs on iTunes. Please feel free to check these out as well.
I would like people to know I have over 2000 songs available that are adaptable to any genre. I will work with anyone interested in doing these songs. I am also available for doing guitar or vocal tracks.
I am very interested in networking with other musical artists. Please feel free to contact me...My e-mail address is:
