About Me

Mark Fox was raised in the suburbs of Nottingham and the countryside of Herefordshire. Taking up music and performing from an early age, he attended Dartington College of Arts where he studied under the tutelage of Frank Denyer and Edward Cowie. He dropped out of college to tour Europe with various bands and to work as a session player. During this time he composed and recorded the original soundtrack to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth (Universal pictures) along with other scores for art films. Mark has always preferred to work in the studio rather than performing, his lifelong mentor and friend Bill Bentley still works with Mark in the studio band Aethertrip. Mark is currently gigging with a band who are as yet undecided on a band name!!!M~ARK is the name given to him by American performance artist and musician Kris Hendrickson. Here's what M~ARK has to say:............"I write like the hare and the tortoise, and then I put all the ideas down on tape using whatever instruments I have next to me at the time.Sometimes my music is cheesy, full of clichés and obvious nods. Sometimes it’s fresh. Sometimes it’s surreal; sometimes it’s too real.I just try to capture the moment. I acknowledge my quantum existence.I’m more comfortable with old technology and standard instruments. There’s something special about old gear. It inspires me. Perhaps it’s because the pops, crackles and rusty components give them personality.I like imperfection it makes me feel normal.Music always contains equal measures of love and hate, form and chaos, light and shade. Nature creates balance in music.Fresh milk is good but sometimes I prefer a vanilla shake. The cow doesn’t mind. The grass still grows............"

Sounds Like: "What it sounded like to me was Japanese noise music, like Merzbow and CCCC" - Simon Collins (Headpress 21)"Mark's original score for The Shocking Truth not only sets the tone for the documentary, but it reminds the viewer of the original terror they felt when they watched the Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the first time." - Tim Harden (www.texaschainsawmassacre.net)"Mark's compositions display a strong affinity for 70's rock. The guitar work remains genuinely very exciting and emotive" - Tim Slater (Guitarist Magazine)
