About Me

I was born in an elevator in the middle of a snow storm in Topeka Kansas and that pretty much describes my life. I've traveled all over the US and England and this country is so beautiful it's amazing. I've lived everywhere, but always loved the forests and the country - never liked cities too much - the crowds grow heavy. My son, Abraham taught me that it's easy to love someone you don't know. I looked at his face the day he was born and his fingers circled my heart forever. The one place I thought I'd never live was southern California - us northern California folks knew the only thing the southern California folks cared about was who has more and who looks better. Then, one day at my sister's wedding, a dashing camera-wielding, tall, blond and handsome man stole my heart away. And taught me who I could be by letting me be me. I am the wife of Michael, mother of Abraham, step-mom to Jana, aunt to Tommy, Corey and Irene. Great (in all ways! :-)aunt to McKenna and JT. Daughter of Bill, granddaughter of Irene.

My Birthday 2008 ... Breakfast in bed ... A surprise birthday animal, 'El Toro of Love' ... my favorite cake ... shopping on the Downtown Mall for a new tea pitcher ... a great dinner at the Downtown Grill ... and a surprise concert at the Paramount Theater with Arlo Guthrie.

My Interests

Long distance running and politics. Our generation was supposed to change the world. Up until the Iowa caucus I'd thought we'd failed miserably. Now, for the first time since 1970, I have hope for America. That's we've grown up and finally can live the dream that all men [and women] are created equal. Also love music, history, art and cats.

I'd like to meet:

Obama and Hillary. Obama because he's an honest politician (an oxymoron one would think) and he inspires young people the way John F. Kennedy did. Hillary because she a woman who's so close to being president it's exHillary-ating (ah - can't resist a pun, no matter how good or bad.) You see - I was told growing up that I could be anything I wanted to be, and, of course, I wanted to be the 1st woman president. Then reality hit me over the head and I found out it was all a big lie - until now. So - Go Hillary! Although I do like Obama better. And, it's cool America is finally coming around to where race and sex don't matter. Yeah - there is hope for us after all!

Music:

Rock, blues, country, folk, alternative - anything with interesting lyrics with a story to tell or a message. I like pretty much all genre's, as long as the lyrics are interesting and intelligent, playful, intricate.

Movies:

Lord of the Rings - all of them.

Television:

Law & Order, NCIS, Monk - is there a thread there?

Books:

The Lord of the Rings shaped who I am. I love mysteries and histories.

Heroes:

My husband who is strong enough to be my man. And gentle, and kind and funny and smart. Thank you, Michael. My father who taught me to value knowledge, to think critically and to always question authority. My Grandmother Irene, who gave me someone to aspire to be like. Alison Krauss has a song called "Simple Love" - this is so much like my grandmother.

Marathon Training

Yesterday I started training for my first marathon.  Who would have thought I'd ever get this far?  A few years ago, I just wanted to run to loose weight.  Found I love running as much ...
