Matteo Liberatore was born in Sulmona, 11 June 1983. He started studying the guitar at fourteen years of age. Three years later he entered the Rodi Garganico Conservatory, where he studied classical guitar under Maestro Marco Salcito and studied harmony, technique and theory (see transcripts). He graduated in 2005 with maximum marks. During these years he attended a number of courses (Alirio Diaz, Paolo Giordano, Paolo Chierici, Gene Bertoncini). In 2003 he set up the guitar duo “Dodici Corde†with Vincenzo Aniello. The two started to give concerts in 2004 and were warmly received by critics and the public. In 2004 they recorded “Days 4 Brazilâ€, a CD of contemporary Brazilian music on which they interpreted works by Brazilian composers, such as Bellinati, Gnattali, Assad, Gismonti. Their repertoire includes pieces by Rodrigo, Giuliani, Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Piazzola, although both share a particular passion for South American music. After winning his diploma in guitar, Matteo decided to dedicate himself completely to jazz and studied under Giuseppe Continenza of EMI (European Musicians Institute), having studied acoustic guitar with Paolo Giordano in 2004. During these years in the conservatory, He won several award with his guitar duo: 1st place at Concorso Nazionale di musica “B.Barattelli†in Popoli (PE), (2005) division chamber music, supported by Ministry of Cultural Activities. 1st place at Concorso Nazionale di Musica Capitanata in Apricena (FG) (2005), division chamber music. I attended several summer courses and performed in many fields and festivals, from jazz to classical concerts and ethnic and popular music. In recent years, Matteo has given taught many guitar courses in schools and regional associations. He has been teaching for three years in several associations (Horizon Service Society, Cooperativa Nuovi Orizzonti Sociali) and in high-school music courses (Liceo Scientifico E.Fermi, Scuola Media Statale Ovidio). Matteo is a great lover of other instruments aside from the guitar. The techniques he acquired in the Conservatory have allowed him to learn a number of different instruments. He plays the 5 string banjo in duo and trio bluegrass groups and has taken part in numerous country festivals in central Italy. He also plays the acoustic guitar, bouzouki and mandolin in ethnic music groups which has helped to further his understanding of Eastern European and Mediterranean music.Abruzzo country brothers pt. 4
