About Me

I'm Larry's wife and Peter, Kurt and Heidi's mom, and Evie Rose's grandma, and teacher to 25 mostly Taiwanese kids, and past teacher to countless Sunday School, preschool, kindergarten, summer camp kids; I am pretty easy going, everyone says I'm patient, I'm a background kind of person; sometimes I like to keep house and cook and garden and sometimes not; I like to go to coffee with my friends back in Eugene; I miss my kids; I'm enjoying seeing some of Southeast Asia; I love the beach and the good eating in Thailand; I live for email from my friends and family while I'm far far away; I'm a failure athletically and I can't sing, but I like to. I read a lot. My favorite place to be is in Eugene in my hot tub with a good book or a good conversation and a glass of white wine. ahhhhhh Also love to be on our boat on a warm evening in the Gulf Islands with some really good snacks, some good music, my favorite boat captain and a good book.http://www.slide.com/r/6MIRuW29zT_ik7h5a0WfKSuZqaren5m8

I'd like to meet:

Oprah

I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !

Music:

Old old music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, some country, some gospel, anything that doesn't hurt my ears--Keola Beamer, Israel _______, some classical, Raffi! I still buy music in a plastic box and books printed on paper. I can't handle loud music anymore....hearing the same song on the alarm clock for more than 3 mornings in a row makes me nuts and I sing it all morning. Nat King Cole, this means you!

Movies:

Whatever was on HBO last night, or Cinemax maybe. We watch the same old videos over and over -- French Kiss, Sleepless in Seattle, Fargo, In and Out, While You Were Sleeping, Terminal, Bruce Almighty, Love Actually, Forget Paris, Wallace and Gromit, most anything with Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks, sometimes Sandra Bullock, Sound of Music, you get the idea. Undoubtedly the best movie I have ever seen was Portrait of a Young Man as an Artist. You should rent it, buy it, give it to all your friends. Recently saw Little Miss Sunshine, laughed myself silly. I'm not into bloody movies--sorry Mel Gibson but I hated that Scottish one I can't think of at the moment but my husband loves. If I really like a movie I like to see it again and again. I just reread my list and it sounds really pathetic, I also like good drama and historical fiction -- don't like anything set in Roman times, too bloody. A good movie should have at least a few horses in it. A treat is to go to the GOld Class theater and sit in a recliner with a basket of fries and a beer, but the trick is to stay awake.

Television:

Whatever is on the movie stations or Star World because all the other channels are in Chinese. Lately have an obsession with Gilmore Girls. I'm working my way through the TV seasons at the local video store. Of course, Seinfeld and Friends and Raymond reruns. Just bought the first season of Murphy Brown. I like Grey's Anatomy. Now we're watching Six Feet Under....since I wrote that we finished it; what a finale.

Books:

Novels, women writers especially, historical novels particularly about the history of the west, love Jane Kirkpatrick. I like novels about women, by women, and children's literature which I have a lot of prejudices about. I love to read a good book and almost always have one in progress. My mother was a huge reader; I get it from her.

Heroes:

Anyone who cares about the world more than their own ego. Oprah, Jimmy Carter, Larry Liedtke, my parents, Margaret and Walt Liebe, Martin Luther King Jr, John Kennedy, Joey Harrington, Mark Hatfield, Tom McCall, Chester A. Arfer. I adore my three wonderful children even though they aren't children and my new adorable Evie.

Life and Death

My sister-in-law died a few weeks ago, without any warning apparently. Just one moment she was in her kitchen and then next she was gone. It's hard to get your head around such a sudden death, out o...

back in the USA

June 18 and we have been back in Eugene for about 4 days. We are struck by how green and tidy everything looks after a year in the big city. This morning I was hot tubbing early in Jane's backyard a...

My World Cup Memory

Kurt just wrote about the World Cup on his blog.  I guess we are lucky because the games are late at night in Taiwan rather than early in the morning.  My World Cup memory is from 1982. ...
