embracing my flaws

About Me

A natural girl in a world of augmented personalities who loves to meet socially conscious people with things on their minds other than tryin to be like what they see on BET. A lover of all things having to do with music who believes in lyricists and hiphop and not tight beats and gangsta rap. An admirer of beautiful black people and a hater of niggaz. A poet that looks forward to documenting her life and the many experiences I've had on paper. A person who strives to be different than the norm on a daily basis.

i am a black woman

I am a black woman
the music of my song
some sweet arpeggio of tears
is written in a minor key
and I
can be heard humming in the night
Can be heard
humming
in the night

I saw my mate leap screaming to the sea
and I/with these hands/cupped the lifebreath
from my issue in the canebrake
I lost Nat's swinging body in a rain of tears
and heard my son scream all the way from Anzio
for Peace he never knew....I
learned Da Nang and Pork Chop Hill
in anguish
Now my nostrils know the gas
and these trigger tire/d fingers
seek the softness in my warrior's beard

I am a black woman
tall as a cypress
strong
beyond all definition still
defying place
and time
and circumstance
assailed
impervious
indestructible
Look
on me and be
renewed

i cry

Sometimes when I'm alone
I Cry,
Cause I am on my own.
The tears I cry are bitter and warm.
They flow with life but take no form
I Cry because my heart is torn.
I find it difficult to carry on.

If I had an ear to confiding,
I would cry among my treasured friend,
but who do you know that stops that long,
to help another carry on.

The world moves fast and it would rather pass by.
Then to stop and see what makes one cry,
so painful and sad.
And sometimes...
I Cry
and no one cares about why.

All of my heroes are unsung. My heroes are the ones that I've never heard of because all of their good deeds are done without mention, without pay, and without praise.
