I have the secret

About Me

If, over my literally dead body, someone buries me in the ground, my tombstone should read:
I TRIED:
1969----

My Interests

Music, Medicine, Dance, Mind-Body connection stuff, Duff, world travel, Acupuncture, Wicca etc, my nephews, my cats, my friends, and newly enjoying nesting and making pretty things.

I'd like to meet:

rabble-rousers and the men that love them

Music:

Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Jeff Buckley, Wilco, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Emmy Lou Harris, Curtis Mayfield, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Bach, Gorecki, and Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits reign supreme for me. OH, and I'm obsessed with every Shins record. See, I'm old; I call 'em records. Also Gillian Welch and David Rawlins, Dolly Parton, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Ben Harper, Bowie, Marley, Massive Attack, Mingus, Miles, Tom McCrae, Steve Earle, Outkast, Morcheeba, Pavement, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughn, Townes Van Zandt, Tom Petty, Parliament, Nina Simone, Nick Cave, Nick Drake, The White Stripes, Monster Magnet ,and the Violent Femmes. When no one is around I love to pretend I can sing with Laura Nyro's "And When I Die" , Rosanne Cash's "Seven Year Ace" or "Landslide," by Miss Nicks (guilty pleasures). Years ago, as a teen in Peoria, I thanked God for rescuing me from top 40 radio with the Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Ministry, and the Smiths .....Johnny Marr's sound drove/drives my lil heart crazy. Lately, I love Kings of Leon, Jurassic 5, and Martha Wainwright's EP is sooo hot. Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks" I have worn out thrice. Love Belle and Sebastian's "Tigermilk"; "Let it Bleed" drives me nuts: "Kiko" by Los Lobos and "Other Songs" by Ron Sexsmith are near perfect albums...I believe both are produced by Mitchell Froom. "Wrecking Ball" IS perfect. Speaking of great producers: Daniel Lanois. Locally, I Love Duff: also loving Ramsay Midwood (sort of local), Mike Stinson, Randy Weeks, Tony Gilkyson, Amy Correia (sorta local) Eleni Mandell, Folk Uke(s-a-local), Kip Boardman, Rancho Deluxe, Rachel Yamagata, Joseph Arthur, Dan Janisch, Rich McCulley, Simon Lynge .....and Steve Reynolds is an mind-boggling guitar player with gorgeous songs. Run, don't walk.

Movies:

Jacob's Ladder, Donnie Darko, Fight Club, Napolean Dynamite, Cabaret, Willy Wonka, Wallace and Grommit, all things Monty Python, Team America, What the Bleep Do We Know, March of the Penguins, Motorcycle Diaries, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, City of Lost Children, The Illusionist, The Departed, A Christmas Story, etc etc...still I go see music and dance more than movies. Movie stars drive me up the wall. Except Phillip. I love Phillip Seymore Hoffman more than ever, and that is sayin' something. Fuckin' A, he is amazing.

Television:

Don't have one, but I do invite myself over to Bubba or Susan's house to watch 6 Feet Under and old South Park episodes. New Deperate Housewives fanatic...season 2. DVD.

Books:

I am a geek.......The Tao of Physics, A Natural History of the Senses, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Blink, the Tom Robbins library, A Joseph Campbell Companion, all Jung, all the time, the Tao te Ching, The Alphabet Versus the Goddess, the Secret Teachings of All Ages, "Blindness" by Saramago, The Wasp Factory, Atlas Shrugged (I wish I could), Adam AND Eve's Diaries by Mark Twain, and my prized possesion, a first edition of Mark Twain's Journals given to me by a client....anything by Mark Twain really, Perfume, A Confederacy of Dunces, Geek Love, Love in the Time of Cholera, Light in August and the Sound and the Fury by Faulkner, anything Dorthy Parker, Emerson, Thoreau, Rumi, the entire David Sedaris library, which is even better on audio. CLOUD ATLAS.....DAMN. His Dark Materials trilogy. TAXI DRIVER WISDOM is hilarious. Dylan's Chronicles. Yeah.

Heroes:

Che Guevara, Thich Naht Hahn, the Dalai Lama and all Buddhas everywhere, Joseph Campbell, Jung, Shackelton, Tesla, Einstein, and Angelina Jolie...no, I'm not kidding.

Ball and Chain

I'm engaged. As of an hour ago. The knee, the 3 dozen roses, the bed of roses, the ring, the bubbly, the works. Woke my parents in the middle of their central time night to tell them. My dad kept ...

don't hate me because I don't have bikini shots

If I had a penny for every myspace gal who has a quote about "being real" scrolling over her near naked body, I would have enough money to buy cute clothes for these poor gals. Nothing against bodies ...
