Rockford, Illinois

Real. Original. Rockford

About Me

Rockford, Illinois was first settled in 1834-1835 by Germanicus Kent, Thatcher Blake, and Lewis Lemon, all of whom came from Galena and established themselves on the west bank of the Rock River. They called their settlement Midway Village which incorporated as a village in 1839, and chartered as a city in 1852 re-naming it Rockford. Rockford got its name from the New Englanders who settled on both banks of a shallow, rocky strech of the Rock River, where there was a natural ford. Rockford, Illinois has a population of more than 150,000 people, with a metro area of approximately 350,000 people. Rockford is located in north central Illinois, just south of Wisconsin and halfway between Galena and Chicago, IL.
