About Me

SCOTT PHILLIPS is a Nashville based independent artist originally from the backwood hills of Northwestern Pennsylvania. He is a husband to Carol and a father to Liam, and will be a daddy for the second time this August!

Scott wrestles daily with his love for the church and the continual disappointment that she is not all she could be. His plight has become one which drives to unite the people of God, not only within their sometimes exclusive denominations, but under the authority and cover of her Head, Christ. C.S. Lewis said, "Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it." Lyrically, Scott opens the door to deeper parts of himself - beyond the fluff of much of today's popular music. "Honesty paves the way to originality," says Scott. "If we can't be honest, we cannot expect to be as unique as we are meant to be - true to ourselves. The best art is created (and the best relationships are cultivated) when we choose to do the difficult work of making ourselves vulnerable to one another; to dig deep, peel back layers, and offer the brightest and darkest parts of ourselves as a gift to another." He's been a full-time indie artist for almost 5 years now and has released 4 full-length albums - most recently a project titled "Next Stop Willoughby." He loves engaging audiences with his stories and songs. His casual approach to live performance connects with audiences on many levels. In his songs, Scott lays himself wide open and vulnerable in an attempt to connect as a real person to real people. Stories laced with humor and hard-hitting truths will relate to each audience member on a personal level and leave them not only entertained, but challenged to "let our actions speak for what we believe." Scott's message is a direct one, often driving home the message of unconditional acceptance of others as well as the importance of authentic community, and both local and global humanitarian work. He is a passionate supporter of child sponsorship through World Vision, a relief and development organization committed to eradicating poverty, hunger, AIDS, and child exploitation. In 2005, Scott received the World Vision "New Independent Artist of the Year" award for his work with his favorite organization, and currently sits among their top 5 artists raising support through sponsorship. Scott currently lives in Thompson's Station, TN with his super-pretty wife Carol Jean (who wrote an amazing song called "The Empty" - on his latest album), his awesome toddling son Liam (who can count higher in French than Scott can) and their much anticipated new addition (still "baking" until August).

SCOTT WANTS TO COME PLAY AT YOUR COLLEGE OR CHURCH! PLEASE VISIT HIS WEBSITE AND EMAIL HIM WITH ANY INFORMATION -- WE'LL CONTACT YOU PERSONALLY TO CHAT ABOUT WHATEVER DATES YOU MAY HAVE IN MIND! THANKS!
