So, what it is, I used to just play Chicago house with a bit of a jazz edge, you know the shuffly jackin stuff? I was doing pretty well, with bookings across the length of the UK, at all the good haunts in Liverpool (my adopted nest) as well as competition wins and DJ gigs overseas (Ibiza and the Lake of Stars festival in Malawi, Africa).
After flogging that for a while I fancied a change from the monotony of the genre and tempo fascism that seems to have put a dampener on the UK club scene and began to explore new sounds with an open mind and an open heart, finding some fresh quirky electronic hip hop that still has no agreed genre title as well as digging through all the other styles of dance music that I love. And that is where you will find me now. Playing what I like, how I like.
A typical atypical jazzbo set draws influences from that glitchy hip hop shit, funk, old school hip hop, jazz, house, dub step, world music, disco, drum & bass and techno. I play solo as jazzbo, as Rippem for my glitchier sets, as part of a 5 man strong law-bending ironic revivalist smoke machine called cantmixwontmixshouldntmixdontmix (aka the Mixnots) and as part of an alternative hip hop band called Karma Motiva.
This year, as well as holding residencies at Circo in Liverpool, and Mojo in West Kirby you can find me ruining everything with the Mixnots at the Square Festival, Standon Calling, Hoofer Doofer, Bloom, Creamfields and in Malawi, Africa for a return to the fantastic Lake of Stars festival. It's a veritable festival of festivals.
