About Me

Multi instrumentalist, Mike Newsham had been running the streets of York for as long as he could remember; Playing music any which way he could - solo acoustic shows, touring Europe as bass player with 'Colour of Fire' or thrashing drums and mandolin in alt-country troubadours 'Boss Caine'. In late 2006 he started looking for something new... Andy Gaines and Chord spent their formative years as the driving force behind rocknroll blues upstarts 'Cardboard Radio', after various UK and European tours, Single releases and festival appearences they began wanting something different, and so in the winter of 2006 they left. In a chance meeting they happened across 19 year old, precociously talented blues guitarist, Mark Wynn who had also runaway and needed somewhere to stay.
The three spent the extremely cold damp Winter holed up in York, struggling to keep warm and passing the time pouring over the back catalogues of The Stones, Blind Willie McTell, Dylan and any other records they could find in York's own version of 'The Big Pink' meets 'Villa Nellcote' - Cardie Towers. Mike Newsham arrived at the Towers for the annual New Years eve party on the 31st Dec 2006. He hasn't left...
knowing how to do little else, they began writing and making music that without trying was steeped in the musical traditions of acts like The Band, The Stones, and all the great early Rock'n'roll artists that preceeded them and emerging from deepest, darkest Micklegate Ward in the Summer of 2007 as 'The Runaway Sons', and sounding:
"...like Kings Of Leon re-inventing Sticky Fingers and more vital and timeless than any of 'yer ten-a-penny pale indie boys"
- The Fly magazine
The Runaway Sons are currently recording material to be released in the Autumn and are in the process of booking, and playing gigs around the country. New recordings will be put online shortly...
