About Me

Emerging from a stagnant Ohio landscape, godot. is making groundbreaking music, deconstructing existing art forms to build a new, exciting sound and a distinctive aesthetic. Drawing influence from art, film, politics, extistential philosophy, love, and frustration, godot.s live performance is a unique experience combining live music with other artistic disciplines, including live painting and projections. Their post-art-rock sound creates an aural landscape of frantic guitars, melodic bass lines, textured drumming, and vocals marked by equal parts distortion and vulnerability. Their first e.p., the sins of your youth, recorded at Clevelands Lava Room Recordings, gives passionate voice to love, paranoia, and desperation, while showcasing a gift for atmosphere.
The godot. art and music collective was initiated in 2003 by singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ryan Downey and performance painter Ryan B. Little. It was initially a two person performance group, but the lineup has expanded to realize ever-expanding ideas, both musical and visual. Today, the collective also includes drummer Justin Hofmann, bassist/vocalist Brian Robertson, guitarist Ryan Wilkins, painter Phil Grimaldi, NYC-based collaborator Sean OConnor, and live projections by various artists.
godot. has emerged as a significant force in a revitalized Ohio music scene, as the group brings its engrossing, multi-media live show to venues throughout the country.
Here's what the critics think of godot.'s first release "the sins of your youth EP"
Available now at cdbaby.com, Turnup Records, Square Records, The Exchange, etc.
"Fans of the Six Parts Seven and Low in the Sky should check out godot.'s 'the sins of your youth EP.' The three core members of Kent's post-art-rock collective spent their formative years studying film, assorted schools of deconstruction and visual art. The time wasn't wasted. The groups live shows are borderless multimedia exchanges between free-form noodling, live painting and video projection.
Mellow as a melotron, disc opener 'All the Sins' is a soundtrack without a movie; eight minute epic, 'Election Night' builds to a climax of squealing psychedelia; and, while bassist-vocalist Brian robertson's nimble bass line in 'PRNEMVN' suggests jazz fusion, the alienated art boys prove capable of rocking out when they want. Singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist R. William Downey mumbles, whispers and squeaks like a shoegazer, but 'Watercolour' (The EP's sole single-length track) suggests he has what it takes to be a real frontman."-Scene Magazine (DX Ferris)
"Formed as a two-piece outfit in 2003, godot. has expanded to a (trio). The group is really out there. Its debut EP, recorded at the Lava Room is a prog-rock showcase. the five-track release starts out sounding much like electronica/jam banders Brothers Past on 'All the Sins,' with a carefree aloof attitude. the disc subsequently builds in measure intensity. 'Watercolour' has that rushed and tortured Bright Eyes approach and 'PRNEMVN' is a complex instrumental that features steady, dance inducing guitar work, making it hard to pigeonhole godot.'s spacey sound."-The Free Times (Pete Mihalek)
