About Me

Lonesome Goat plays a mix of many different styles of music (old-school country, rock, blues, country swing, jam). The band's live show draws rave reviews from fans and fellow musicians. The band started out as The Humans. Dave Regal formed the band in his college years in Oklahoma, then reformed the group when he moved back to Amarillo. The Humans released the album Peace Pipe in 1991.The Humans enjoyed local and regional success with their groove/jam sound through Peace Pipe and the follow-up, Circle in the Sun (1995).The band released the album Riding Wheelies to Venus in 1999 through the now-defunct website MP3.com. They then went on to record Mental Traffic (2001), a harder-edged rock album, which was a limited release.Regal then decided to take the band in a different direction; former Groobees lap steel guitarist Rick Faucett was recruited, the band name was changed to Lonesome Goat, and the sound went to more of a traditional country/western swing style.Lonesome Goat's first album, Sunburst Beauty, was released in 2004, and received airplay on local stations as well as national airplay on XM radio’s X-Country, making the top 50 songs of the year list.Gary Wayne Thomason, a former bandmate of Faucett’s in the Groobees, joined the band in 2005, after the departure of lead guitarist and mandolin player Derek Wakefield. Bassist Justin Hedgcoth, percussionist Drew Holder, drummer John Lerma, and mandolin player Bo Salling round out the current Goat lineup.Lonesome Goat’s second, self-titled album was recorded at AMP Studio in Amarillo by Drew Holder and was released in August of 2007. It meshes the jam and groove sounds of The Humans with the early sounds of Goat."Give this band a chance and you will not be let down. They can hold a crowd in their seats till 2:00A.M. everytime. They are the real deal" - Arcadio Rivera - Booking Manager for the Goldenlight Cantina."Very original song writing along with top notch musicians make this one of the most exciting bands I've seen in a long time" - Eric Slayter - General Manager of Cumulus Broadcasting in Amarillo.
