About Me

My real name is Phuong Linh Nguyen and I am Vietnamese. My married name is Phoebe Nguyen-Dounn. I am on chemo for the 2nd time in my life because I have lupus(SLE). I was finally diagnosed in 1989 at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota in 1989 while working for IBM and studying the GRE to be accepted into University of Arizona for my Master degree in Electrical Engineering.The lupus eventually damaged my lungs and that's why I am on chemo again. I have a very rare lung disease called Lymphocytic Interstitial Pnemonia (LIP). I have many other chronic diseases that are auto-immune.I was born in Saigon, Vietnam during the Vietnam war. We were able to escaped before the Communist won the Vietnam war and the US finally realized that it's a war that they cannot win and pulled all the US troops out. My family moved to many refugee camps outside Vietnam and the camps were miserable to live in but it was better than staying in Vietnam. In middle of 1975 we were able to moved into the US and stay at Camp Pendleton, CA refugee camp until our sponsored grandparents adopted us and move us in their storage room in Tucson, AZ. Our big adopted family are so dear to us and I think of them as my relatives. Without their love & support I wouldn't be who I am. My dad & mom worked hard when we live in Tucson because they wanted their 5 childran to have an education. They also set high goals for us. All of of us went to college and got our degrees because we wanted a better life for ourselves & for our parents. We have learned that the opportunities in the US are endless. You can be anything you want if you set your mind to it. Don't be lazy and rely on anybody in life just rely on family and true friends. I am very intelligent and I can tell if someone is a liar and a fake friend which I don't need in my life. Life is complicated enough to be playing games with my feelings.

My Interests

I like to crochet, it's calms me just like meditating. I have relied on meditation rather than any pain killers to get me thru any physical pain that are from the chemo pills.

I'd like to meet:

I would like to chat with other shih tzu lovers, any lapdogs and rescued dogs since they can relate to my love for dogs and animals. I also would like to chat with other people that have lupus or gone thru chemo or have relatives that had chemo. I also would like to chat with anybody that have cancer or have relatives that had cancer.All the shih tzus, lapdogs and rescued dogs (doesn't matter the size or type of dogs). I hope in the future to be with my mom that passed away in 2007 and my grandmother that helped raised us in Vietnam because they are really my role models.

Music:

Music in the 70s and 80s. Anything from Rod Stewart. I been listening to alot of Easy Listening music or medidation music especially Peter Davidson.

Movies:

Any comedies and no scary or sad movies about war which will sadden me.

Television:

Any comedies, I especially loves Sienfeld , Kings of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond and Mad About You. American Idol, Brady Bunch and comedies from the 70s. I love to watch Ellen Degeneres show cause she is a very funny & sometimes too honest for TV. I love watching professional football, college basketball and the Olympics.

Books:

I can't seem to focus on reading a book since the chemo pills and I'm always taking care of Goo & Winnie. I like reading books related to chemo, lupus or meditation.

Heroes:

My beloved mom (she passed away in 2006 from 2 strokes). My fostered grandmother (Mary but we called her Ba) for always being there to comfort me. My husband (Paul) for loving me for who I am for 16 years and we vowed never to divorce no matter how bad times can get.All my family members that have protected me thru the years, especially my dad and my older sister (Mimi) which have taken over the role of my mom. My younger brother (Son) who will be taking over the role of dad in the future. My other two sisters (Khanh) for living with my daddy and she always make me laugh until I pee. My younger sister (Diem) who I wish live closer to us cause I miss her and her growing family. My sister-in-law (Nancy) who also makes me laugh until I cried and pee.All the people that rescue dogs. Anybody that have gone thru chemo or have lost loved ones to chemo.
