About Me

Hello, hello. My name is Oliver Devine Edsforth and this page is an invitation to check out my various writing and music projects. Taming the tones has been a big part of my life since I was a teenager, and I graduated from NYU in 2005 with a degree in music composition. Although I have yet to debut my Opus one for solo piano, the intense study of western music and my experience playing alto sax on the free jazz scene greatly inspired some of my early fiction. I've been playing synthesizer in rock bands for a few years (The Kiss-Off), and recently started a technical metal group in which I also do vocals (The Afterworldsmen) In 2006 I wrote the novel "The Blows of Fate," and wrapped up my first screenplay, which I first drafted as a sophmore in college. Since then I have begun to increase my work rate and I anticipate a very prolific future full of flamboyant fiction. At least one book and one play per year and I'm not kidding about that. On this page you can find information on all my latest fiction, plays for stage and screen, poety, bands, concert music, and experimental records. Feel free to message me with any questions you have, I'll always write back. Many thanks for stopping by!*** The stories posted in the blogs are for a forthcoming collection about NYC called "Burn This City," to be completed in 2008. Enjoy!

My Interests

The constant scribbling of grand illusions. Write everyday, it's that simple. Write a lot. Write when you're sad, mad, content. Write in the morning when it's getting light out. Write at night while the city sleeps. Draft or edit longhand. Love your laptop. Play your instrument like it's a lover. Practice new things and play old favorites. Start chipping away at the stone of pitch recognition. Read all the books you heard were good. Re-read the ones that change you. Go to the cinema, study the art of moving pictures. Get stoned and laugh out loud. Go to museams and look at fine art every day. Keep a journal. Write if it feels right. It does for me. Take criticism. Ignore what other people have to say: critics, rivals, skeptics, unrequited loves. You are an ocean of creativty and they don't know how to swim. Keep your eyes and ears open press record on this world. GETTING AN AGENT.

I'd like to meet:

Groupies, patrons, publishers, instrumentalists, bandmates, beautiful smart eccentric girls from europe, women from all over, dudes who like post-modernism and power-metal, anyone and everyone. U.

Music:

Song of Orpheus: "History Will Not Repeat Itself" --progressive/classical/hell-eclectic-tronic/mashups and original music...most of the material is grafted from late romantic-era pieces, rearranged, mutilated. www.myspace.com/songoforpheus [email protected] - coming in 2007BANDS: THE AFTERWORLDSMEN..... www.myspace.com/afterworldsmen THE KISS-OFF..... www.myspace.com/thekissoffnyc THE ALL OR NOTHING DAYS..... www.myspace.com/theallornothingdays (demo coming in 2007)

Movies:

Screenplay ..1 "The Last Day of Winter---violence, drugs, and drama during 24 hours in Brooklyn, 160 pages in triubte to Selby Jr. and Sarah Kane .......2 -- "The Eddie Meet" ---a raunchy teen movie/comedy about a track meet and an old perverted man's will. .......3 -- "Nightswimmers" ---the withering away of a fragile mind over three decades, a harrowing Lynch inspired, dream-like journey.

Television:

Contemplating writing a pilot for a teenage drama about highschool soccer players.

Books:

"The Blows of Fate" a long story, a postmodern spook, my first novel, brutal, over the top, prolix, verbose, defecating on tradition, much of it will be free online soon.... "Abound" 2nd novel of coming of age book (boy do I hate that term though) about adventure, indulgance and the nature of writing and friendship. It's basically a dude getting fucked up and trying to fuck in Costa Rica. Coming in 2007 "empathy." --- the characters in my first collection of stories aren't the most chipper bunch in the world. Each piece has a different tone and unique central character but all share a common thread, through the stark cold brutality of the modern world we find empathy lurking in strangest of places. "The Projectionist" -- A full length stage play about a man waiting to obtain access to a movie theater. As he waits he perceives that things are strangely off kilter in his reality and upon entrance to the theater his world begins to unravel untill the truth about the movie he has come to see is finally revealed.

Heroes:

Those who walk among the pillars of art and brave to add thier own pieces to life's most beautiful puzzles.
