Genius and madness are closer siblings than love and hate

About Me

I am struggling. I have it dead easy. Life is short. Life is long. I play bass until my hands give out. I hear voices. All is silent, except for the trains. I am futile. I can make a difference. It's up to me. It's up to you... My Interests

I like to create a considerable racket, often compared to a bleeding VC10. Listen:....

I'd like to meet:

Some Japanese people maybe. I dig this song, very europop meets Joe Jackson in Tokyo. And the bass intro is the same as You Better You Bet.

And some scooter people.

This is my new favorite band, Tally Hall from Detroit. I used to hang out at the actual Tally Hall as a kid.

Music:

The Who, The Beatles, White Stripes, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Costello, Fountains of Wayne, Buck Owens, The Vines, Petra Haden, Chet Baker, Rage Against The Machine, Django Reinhart, Chet Atkins, U2, Prince, The Clash, Todd Rundgren, Outkast, Stephane Grappelli, The Shins, Dean Martin, No Doubt, Miles Davis, Bruce Springsteen, Ozomatli, Ella Fitzgerald, George Shearing, Johnny Cash, Paco De Lucia, Jet, Mike Watt, Radiohead, Del Paxton, The Police, Burt Bacharach, Alejandro Fernandez, Led Zeppelin, Franz Ferdinand, Don Henley....argh, you get the picture. Lots of stuff. Plus my friends....Jeff Kossack, Severin Browne, Amilia Spicer, James Coberly Smith, SpiGGa, Nick Garrisi, Alex Del Zoppo, Breech, Mike Ubaldini, Matthew Lee, Shannon Hurley, RustBelt, Stephen Shareaux, Anna Marie Nicosia, Gilli Moon, Joe DiRocco, Gary Popenoe, and the rest of the LA singer/songwriter community. As for me personally, I like to create a considerable racket, often compared to a bleeding VC10. Listen:....

Movies:

Quadrophenia, It's a Wonderful Life, A Hard Day's Night, all the Pink Panther films (except the Steve Martin version), The Kids Are Alright, Godfather 1 & 2, the original Ocean's 11, Rear Window, Lost In Translation, The Natural, Fahrenheit 9/11, My Favorite Year, all that James Bond shit. I could go on and on.

Television:

I love Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development. I've been watching them endlessly on DVD. I'm getting into Heroes and 24 on Monday nights. Scary that I'm watching contemporary television.

Books:

Biographies, odd fiction, self-improvement books, coffee-table books about music. Today's short attention spans lead me to read Esquire more than a good book. Dang, have to change this. I just read books about the decline of the British empire and the JFK murder conspiracy. The butler did it.

Heroes:

My family. Especially my brother.Anyone who knows better.

My Blog

Just Ask Me

I doubt if anyone's noticed, but I haven't posted a blog for at least a year, if not more.I figure if you're curious about what I'm doing or what I'm feeling, you, as a friend, would ask me. Otherwis...

William Shatner Won't Be My Friend

After numerous attempts, I've given up on attempting to add myself to William Shatner's "friends list". I am saddened by this.  After all the hours of entertainment he has provided me with over t...

Speaking of Quiet

I lost my voice today.  Can't speak a word.  Completely gone.  It's more than a little scary.  Hope when I get it back, my vocal range is still there.   Very har...

Oh.

Oh shit.   It's too quiet now.   There WAS thunder in the distance.  I heard the roar of a train and pouring rain and voices in my head.  And the ocean.  Cleansing.  Rede...

And Curse Sir Walter Raleigh

He was such a stupid git. I'm so tired.  You know the rest of the song.   My job is so intense right now, plus Quad rehearsals, have eradicated my social life and ability to sleep. Anyone ha...

That Fucking Lennon

As great a songwriter as Macca is, the plaintive bitterness in this lyric by John Lennon - and the way it's delivered on record - is unbelievably emotional: Is there anybody gone to listen to my story...
