ARCADE FIRE, PIXIES especially Dolittle and Surfer Rosa, Modest Mouse, Okkerville River, The Beatles, The Wrens, The White Stripes, Cold Play, The Sex Pistols, Nirvana, Beck... you know Beck is called "a generation's consolation prize after the death of Kurt Cobain." Chronologically, it's an apt assessment: Cobain killed himself on April 5, 1994; "Loser" peaked at #10 on the Billboard charts three weeks later. But back in the mid-90s, Beck was practically Cobain's polar opposite. Whereas Kurt exuded raw power with every phlegm-spewing roar, Beck rapped in monotone (when he wasn't crooning like a sleep-deprived folkie). Kurt hunched and staggered; Beck pranced, did splits, and mimicked robots. Kurt raged against a doomed world with a vitriolic mix of anger and sincerity; Beck took the piss out of a doomed world with a mix of irony and showmanship. Admittedly, they were both known to wear flannel shirts from time to time....what else, aah, The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Broken Social Scene, The Flaming Lips, Mission of Burma, Velvet Underground, ..and you will know us by the trail of dead, AC Newman, Andrew Bird, Architecture in Helsinki, The Beach Boys, yes I like the Beach Boys and I'm not gay, but I like the cool albums like SMILE and Pet Sounds...let me retract SMILE...not as cool as I initially thought, but that Vegetables song is cool in a happily retarded way, Belle & Sebastian, Bloc Party, Blur, Bob Dylan, The Clash, David Bowie!!, The Who, Weezer, Unicorns, Television, T. I dig comedy shows and a few others that have this stigma for being lame like "Survivor", yeah, I know...not cool, got it, whatever, I think that shows an exciting real drama that truly gets to the core of who we are as humans and how we function as a society, it's like a microchosim of our society, it tests you in ways that reveal who you really are, how much integrity you have, will power, cunning, courage, compassion, common sense, etc...thats my pitch for Survivor. DEXTER on Showtime is simply tittilating! Ok so some of my very favorites are Mr. Show, The Kids in the Hall, The Office (UK version), The Colbert Report, Monty Pythons Flying Circus, Curb Your Enthusiasm, the Tenatious D episodes that were on HBO were hilarious...ummm, I know Im missing some...oh yeah Ali G...thats it for now....again I shall fill the void L8R...toodaloo.
