Bar-Bee was born in New York to Jamaican and Nigerian parents. She spent her early years traveling between her parents' native countries, and found her life's calling through music. Her recent work with Beenie Man stirred up a hit single, "Give It Up" and some controversy in Jamaica. Bar-Bee made the best of potential challenges to make a lane for herself, and is ready to bring her sound to the U.S. and the world at large in a big way with her new single "PaddyCake," which features Beenie Man.
Bar-Bee began singing and writing poems at the age of five, and by age 11 she was a leader of her church choir. At 16 she formed her first group Best Kept Secret, performing at talent shows and small venues. By the time she was 18, Bar-Bee began performing solo. She recorded her first single "Missing You," which featured VP Records artist Junior Kelly. The single received tremendous airplay throughout the Caribbean, the North Eastern United States, South Florida, Canada, Nigeria and West Africa. The video for "Missing You" received critical acclaim globally, putting Bar-Bee on the map of young entertainers.
Bar-Bee has shared the stage with some of the world's top reggae artists such as Junior Kelly and Beenie Man, among others. She recently performed at the 2007 SumFest in Jamaica for more than 30,000 fans with artists such as Beenie Man, Mary J. Blige, LL Cool J and other top world artists.
In early 2007, Bar-Bee was featured on Beenie Man's new single and video "Give It Up." Once again, Bar-Bee found a positive response worldwide as the single became a hit in Jamaica. A prolific song writer, Bar-Bee has a catalog of over 60 songs, and continues to write daily as she records all her own songs.
Now just 20-years-old, Bar-Bee is signed with UrbanDisk Records and Frontline Media World Inc. Headed by industry veteran Will Crittendon, the budding label is doing everything possible to support Bar-Bee's career. Her new hit max-single "Paddy Cake" featuring Beenie Man also includes the tracks "Diva In My Sneaker" and "Light Some Candles Tonite," which also features Beenie Man.
Under the guidance of Will Crittendon, Bar-Bee is poised to be a world-class total artist. "Bar-Bee's music may be classified as Urban World Pop," says Crittendon. "Of all the hit artists that I have guided and produced over the past 25 years, Bar-Bee has all that it takes to succeed big time."
Bar-Bee just completed her third music video for the single "Paddy Cake" and is recording her debut album on UrbanDisk Records. Slated for a Spring 2008 release, the album promises to bring the Urban World Pop sound to the masses. Taking from her own inspirations Bob Marley and Fela Kuti, Bar-Bee expresses hope that her music will touch people: "I want to be a role model and an inspiration for all young people all over."
