About Me

In 1996 Keith Welsh Played his first show as a solo act. That evening he opened up for The Mercury Program, Chisel, and Karate. This was a good example of the old saying, “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” That year he had his first release which came in the form of a 7” ( titled 9:35am) on a microscopic lable called Think Tank (Undecided Records). The next year his second release saw the light of day. Another 7” titled And When The Phone Rings on a lable called Forever Escaping Bordum. The year following Keith played a radio show in Tampa called My So-Called Radio Show. After the show one of the hosts, Brad Richards, confronted Keith with the idea of releasing a CD on his new lable Brave Noise Records. Keeping with Keith’s tradition of only working with friends Brad suggested that their mutual friend Tom Reno do the recording. Keith then requested the help of another pal The Fabulous Dave LeBlue to play drums. They did the recording in a lawn maintence warehouse. So there among the weed wackers and lawn mowers Keith , with the help of his friends Tom and Dave, recorded his first CD titled Slow Dive. After the release of Slow Dive Keith Welsh did one short tour alone then came home to think about it. He decided that he hated his songs. So he called his long time friend Tim Kirkpatrick, who was now living in Gianesville to play in the hardcore band Culture, and asked if he would play drums. Keith then decided to get a bass player. Keith had only one name in mind, and that was his old friend Todd Rockhill. Todd was perfect, but at the same time the girl fronted punk band Discount was lookign for a bass player as well. hey got Todd, and so did Keith. So not only was he sharing a drummer, but he was sharing a bass player as well. Three years after the release of Slow Dive ,and one attempt at another 7”, Keith Welsh decided to release a record himself with the help of Boxcar Records. He titled it American. Keith recieved crushing reviews claiming that he was tring to copitolize on the recent tragity of 9/11. Keith brushed them off and just cocentrated on the good reviews. Some folks just didn’t get it. The songs were different and the kids just didn’t dig it as much as his older material. However, that is what makes Keith who he is. He has never cared about what people would say or think. As long as he was happy.
