If you came to Ireland and were invited to a gig which featured an accordion, a fiddle, a guitar and percussion, what kind of music would you expect to hear? Sorry, but Forró Roots won’t be playing Irish folk. Those same instruments form the basis of one of Brazil’s most popular music genres, forró, typical of the St. John’s day winter celebrations.Following the recent surge in popularity of samba music in Europe, the forró genre has been charming the European public in places such as England, France, Spain and Portugal, and now comes to Ireland.Forró Roots presents the colorful palette of styles that constitute the forró genre: the downtempo xote, a playful and relaxed rhythm that bears a resemblance to reggae; baião, a faster beat such as lambada or salsa; and galope, for full-on dancers. Warm latin beats and exotic harmonies for non-stop dancing.
