One of the most interesting things of living in another country that speaks the same language (well virtually the same) as you do, is that you can see how differently we use that language. It makes me think of how absurd some of our signs and sayings are - but just so you can get a feel for our life in Scotland, here are the signs we see and often don't understand. Just remember, Do not foul your dog, or let him foul, I'm not sure.

So I figured I should actually have something in the "about me" section. I guess I should first say what I "do", since that is how we categorize each other - I am a writer - my book comes out in April; I have co-founded and help run a website - which is www.metamorpha.com, which is NOW LIVE!!! and we are very excited about it. I live in Aberdeen Scotland, where I am at King's College of Aberdeen University working on my Ph.D in theology. Here is King's College, and is where I can usually be found. If you see the arrow on one of the slides that is where my office is:

This is Kings College, and it was built in 1495. While I am here I will be studying theology, with a focus on the work of Karl Barth and Jonathan Edwards, with a focus on the Christian life. It should be interesting because they are very different thinkers, but yet both were pastoral, vastly prolific, and each are arguably the most important thinkers of their day. I am daily reminded of how little I know, how much I have to learn, and how blessed I am to have the chance to sit at the feet of two intellectual and spiritual giants of theology. I have no doubt that it will be an incredibly growing experience.
After that I hope to teach in a college or graduate level setting, but we'll see. Other than that, I am married and absolutely love marriage. We are constantly laughing, and she has no problem being my sugar-momma as I do a variety of things that aren't extremely lucrative. Kelli just finished her doctorate in Physical Therapy, and she will hopefully be doing that when we are in Scotland. Well, that is about it for now. My Interests

These are some pictures from our drive through the highlands. When you see the pictures, keep in mind that they are mostly taken from a moving car through closed windows! It is amazing how beautiful it is out here.

I'd like to meet:

Instead of this category, I would like to let you know what sites I tend to frequent, other than myspace of course: 1). Metamorpha.com - which is the site that I and my friend Jamin put up to help engage in the discussion of Christian spirituality. 2). My family tends to write and put up websites (I'm not sure why that is), but my Father's site is www.leestrobel.com, and my sisters site is www.alisonstrobel.com. 3). www.christianaudio.com - This is a great site. Friends of mine have put this up to help people on the go get great books to listen to on their I-Pod or in their car - check it out! 4). Blogger.com - I am new to the whole blogging world, but I am going to be setting up a blog for when my book comes out. I do a little blogging here, but not that much. I'll keep you posted on when my blog comes out.

Music:

Well lets see, these days it is a bit random. I am listening to a lot of Explosions in the Sky - who are awesome. I continually find myself listening to Sigur Ros as well. I have also been listening to the Cold War Kids, to get a little bit of Southern California back in me, and I also have enjoyed listening to Dustin Kensrue's solo stuff.

Television:

OK Go - "Here It Goes Again" Buy OK Go - Oh No at iTunes.

Books:

There are many books that I have loved reading, but because this is the "books" section, I figured I should put mine here. If you like it, please add it to your page!

Copy and Paste this code to add the book to your profile!

Click here to find out more info about the book, or to download the free study guide.

If you want to check out what I have been reading lately, please check out my online shelf:

My Blog

In Memory of Brandon

Hello all. As some of you may know, my friend Brandon Garcia died a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't planning on blogging about it at all, but I received an email from his mother today that inspired me. ...

Soil and Thorns Part 2

To continue on from my post yesterday, I wanted to make a note of something that is interesting, though obvious, interesting nonetheless. I find it particularly noteworthy that wealth and worry are ti...

Soil and Thorns

As most of you know I have been contemplating the message found in the parable of the sower (or soils) in Matthew 13. My interpretation has been to avoid limiting this parable to people who have not h...

A Question Part 2

At the center of Mark's gospel Jesus asks a question of his disciples: Who do you say that I am? This, I fear, can often become one question of many that Jesus may ask, or one statement among many tha...

Word

So, I was just thinking about the nature of meditating on the Word of God, when I couldn't help but notice a place of stumbling for many people. In my encounters with other people like myself who have...

A Question

So, I was thinking about a blog I wrote much earlier, and I wanted to go back to it. I am of the belief that we are all answering a question with our lives. This question is usually subconscious, some...

Simple Faith

So I was thinking the other day randomly (side note: it is not random that I was thinking, I am not trying to use "randomly" as an adverb for "thinking" as much as for the content of the thinking), an...

Vanity?

There are few vices as pervasive and ignored as the vice of vanity. Vanity could very well be the vice that has been turned into the great virtue in nearly every area of our lives. For many, this is h...

What does right feel like Part II

To add to my last post, and respond to Vince, we really should talk about what it looks like to make a decision - do we trust emotions, cognition, or both. First, it seems appropriate to look at both....
