Lately I'm fascinated by all sorts of things. I'm having a blast being really nerdy as I try to ramp my brain back up to full operational capacity (the analytical and humor sides have been atrophying and suffering from lack of sleep for the past 4 years).
Not particular at the moment. People who are passionate about just about anything... maybe especially about slightly absurd things.
On a bit of a lull lately, listening to a lot of old stuff. Pandora.com is simply the coolest thing around.Currenly reorganizing my iTunes playlists. Current favorites: "Overproduction Rocks," (awesomely overproduced tracks from the 80s on... think "Shout" by Tears for Fears) "Emoporn" (I'm a sucker for well-written drama in music..."The Dreaming Road," Mary Chapin Carpenter) and "Head-Nods" (solid Hip-Hop tracks, anything from BlackStar to Fettes Brot).
Waking the Dead, Almost Famous, Secretary, Primer, American Beauty, Magnolia, Amelie, Lola Rennt, La Femme Nikita (orig. French), DreamKeeper, Ronin, Labyrinth.
Meh. It's like video games... I try not to get into it cuz I'd immediately lose large chunks of my life. Abstaining from both TV and video games does lead to an unfortunate lack of pop culture reference, and probably don't help my already deteriorating memory, but c'est la vie, say the old folks...
Malcolm Gladwell, Orson Scott Card, Susan Cooper, Ian Rankin, Carl Hiaasen, Peter Bowen, Jared Diamond in small doses. Plato lately- more accessible than I expected.
Trite-and-True: MLK, Biko, Einstein, DaVinci. Lesser-known-and-therefore-maybe-more-interesting: Randall Munroe.
