About Me

Check out my web site at www.wayne-wise.com for more info if you're really interested. I have an MA degree in Clinical Psychology, I work in a comics shop (Phantom of the Attic in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh), and I'm a writer/artist. I've worked professionally as a comics artist and a freelance music journalist. A couple of years ago my first novel, King Of Summer, was published. You can find it on Amazon. Really.I've rejoined the world of comics publishing. There's a web comics site called Drunk Duck. If you create an account you can post your own comics (as well as comment on others). I've started posting pages of Grey Legacy, the comic Fred Wheaton and I self-published back in the 90's. You can see it here .I'm also working as an inker on two other series. They are Chaos Punks (written by Brian Babyok and pencilled and colored by Scott Hedlund), and The Glamour (written and coloredby Brian Babyok and pencilled by Barry Linck).

My Interests

Writing (fiction, articles, reviews). Reading (lots of that, about a book a week, of many styles and genres). Music. Mythology. Arthurian legends. Spirituality/Philosophy. Literature. Psychology. History. Lots of stuff interests me, really. I have way too many hobbies.

Music:

Way, way too much to list, but here goes (I'm going to forget a few): PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Lloyd Cole, the Jazz Butcher, Alice Cooper, Geraldine Fibbers/Carla Bozulich, David Bowie, Reid Paley, Peg Simone, KISS, the Pixies, the Replacements, Slade, Johnny Cash, the Epoxies, L7, Hank Williams (Sr. and Hank III, not so much with Jr.), Einstuerzende Neubauten, Iggy Pop, Cheap Trick, T Rex, Bonnie Prince Billie/Palace/Will Oldham, Congo Norvell, Dirty 3, Slim Cessna's Auto Club... locally, The Deliberate Strangers, the Motorpsychos, Science Fiction Idols, the Cheats, Local Honey... the list goes on and on.

Books:

I average about one a week. All kinds. Just tell me a story.

Comicon Ruminations Part Two

The fan's point of view...My first comic book convention was PittCon '81, held at Duquesne University. It was a big deal. It was maybe the second time I had ever driven in Pittsburgh (growing up out...

Comicon Ruminations Part One

This past weekend was the annual Pittsburgh Comicon. As always I had a good time hanging out with friends and being surrounded by a veritable orgy of books, art and merchandise relating to my lifelong...

Why don’t I blog more?

I don’t blog very often. Almost never in fact. I’ve had a LiveJournal account for months now and this is the first thing I’ve posted. It’s odd, considering I’m a writer. ...

Overheard in a pizza shop

This is a conversation I heard recently (reconstructed from memory, so it's not verbatim). Imagine this being spoken in a thick Pittsburgh/Italian accent."She's a good kid, my daughter. Smart. I do...

A review and a gripe

Last week I went to the 31st Street Pub to see Kid Congo Powers. For those of you unfamiliar with the name, Kid has one of the best resumes in alternative rock. He was taught to play guitar by Jeffr...

Listen To The Wise Man (there's a joke in there for people familiar with The Prophet's Song)

I came to music fandom a little later than most. The tendency was always there, but it was a lack of exposure that led to the delay. I didn't have older siblings who listened to music and exposed me t...
