There was a time in Matt Crumpton's life when he actually believed that he was good enough to make it as a touring singer/songwriter. However, Matt realized that living in your car for a few years until you make it (or don't) was not that appealing to him. So, he did what any bold pioneer would do - went to law school. While the majority of Matt's songs are about relationships (run of the mill singer/songwriter crap), he has gained most of his notoriety for a few songs that are very specific. On My Life As That Guy, his first record, the standout songs include Gridiron Glory (which has become a theme song for a few high school football TV shows) and Song For Brooke. The new record, Speak Too Soon, allows Matt to show off some things that he has not yet shown, namely harmonies and piano work. The record also features a couple of songs that have already gained popularity online - Ohio (the Anthem song about Ohio University, which by changing a few street names here and there can be made into a song about any college town) and Jack Bauer. Matt is a very self-aware guy. Recently, he noted "I understand that there are thousands of lame singer-songwriters out there talking about love who think that they are John Mayer. That is why I write songs like Jack Bauer, Ohio, and Gridiron Glory. These are songs that people want to hear, despite the fact that it is me singing them. How does my hair look?" The album contains 15 songs, including 2 family collaborations: a piano instrumental with his father, Mark, (December In Kansas) as well as vocal harmony with his sister, Natalie (Miss You My Friend).
While I am speaking about myself in 3rd person, I should also add that Matt Crumpton really likes it when you put a link to his myspace page in your AIM profile (www.myspace.com/mattcrumptonmusic) and when you write thoughtful remarks on his myspace wall.
