Rita's Gift is an indie/alternative/rock band from Charlotte, North Carolina. Their diverse sound ranges from wall-shaking aggressive hard rock to intimate piano-ledmelodies. Initially conceived in early/mid 2007 by singer/songwriter Scott Morris, who planned the project as a solo effort at its beginning, only to soon after change that plan into something capable of high energy live performance. Drummer Brian Gryder (formerly of Morningface) would be added in the winter of 2007.
With giant drums shells, huge cymbals, lots of sweat, and the occasional blister, Gryder attacks the drums with a frightening intensity that drives Rita's Gift past your average every-day rock band. Morris, the bands vocalist, guitarist, and pianist, blends dark melodies with distinct emotional vocals to give the band a truly unique sound. He has set up a MIDI floor-control pedal system that allows him to sing, play guitar/piano, and trigger keyboard sounds/effects with his feet simultaneously.
The band is named after Scott's grandmother, Rita Morris, a singer and piano player who introduced him to music at a young age, only to pass away soon after. It was hergift to him, and to anyone else that may enjoy the music created from it. The band has accomplished much in its short time, such as appearing twice, both solo and full-band,on the Fox television morning show, Fox News Rising, as well as performing at several live venues in the region, and have recently completed their first full-length album, entitled "Burn For What You Believe", set to be released in the coming weeks.
