Dimitris Koustas

Dimitris Koustas was born in Athens, Greece in 1978. He begun his music studies in accordion and theory in a small local conservatory and then he went to study with Kostas Tsilidis in the National Conservatory of Greece and he obtained his bachelor’s degree in accordion and advanced theory. He continued his studies in accordion with Iraklis Vavatsikas in the Fillipos Nakas’ conservatory, and with Raymond Bodell in the university of Surrey where he also study composition with Steve Goss and Classical Studio Production with Sebastian Forbes. He also studied with Owen Murray (Royal Academy of Music) to expand his Classical Accordion Repertoir He is also member of the Axart Network for arts based in London. He has performed extensively as a soloist and as a member of various groups in Athens, London ,Paris, Venice, Gratz. His performances include the Royal Albert Hall, Jazz Cafe London,Arcola theatre, Le Divan Du Monde (Paris France), Warwick International Festival, the City Of London School AmLend theatre (Gratz,Austria) and various other places like bars and restaurants. His compositions include music for the theatre, documentaries, art installations and performance acts. His work includes performances with “The Plastic Chairs” ,“Moosootoo” and the duet “Breathing Reeds” (accordion-saxophone). He is one of the founding members of the band “DEPOT” who explore the sounds and rhythms of the Balkan Peninsula and how all these can be fused with latin rhythms and the jazz tradition to make music that transcends physical and psychological borders. He also plays with Istories Gia Krousta group of Vasilis Vasilatos. He teaches Clasical Accordion at the National Conservatory of Greece and at the "Elefthero" Odeio.
