About Me
Mário Del Nunzio - biografia
About the pieces currently in the player:
"Improviso em Branco e Preto (carta às videntes)"
was composed in 2004. The piece, which uses mainly fragments from
pre-existent recordings, had
its initial idea in the perception of the difference between the sound
material
of percussion instruments of two categories: the first, of works by
composers
such as I. Xenakis, K. Stockhausen and B. Maderna, specifically in
recordings
of the 90's, pieces which have a great gestural and instrumental
variability,
but with a high degree of standartization in what concerns the
recording
procedures; the second, of drum solos in albums by rock groups, which
have a
very high degree of instrumental and gestural siilarities - repetitive
drum
patterns played really fast, in similar drum sets - but which, due to a
specific attention to the recording and sound treatment, have a
peculiar and
specific sound identity.
Its title
emphasises the improvisational aspect of the piece and evocates texts
by the
same name by R. Char and A. Rimbaud - texts which deal with the
viscerality,
time instability, dissolution of boundaries and some kind of
destruction (even
if all that happens during a party), directly related with the highly
energetic
and explosive caracther of the piece.
"Contradição paradoxa", which had its first performance
in 2007, is a non-written piece (some kind of oral tradition?), created
and played by the duo formed by Mário Del Nunzio [electric
guitar + live electronics] and Bernardo Gomes de Barros [live
electronics]. Here is presented an excerpt (due to mb limitation on
myspace) documental live recording from its premiere, in São
Paulo.
The piece is an electric guitar meta-duo, as the live electronics and
pre-recorded material is largely based on samples from the instrument -
which, on the other side, tries to emulate the manipulation pf the live
electronics by means of extended and non-conventional instrumental
techniques.
"Fragmentos de Vermelho" is a very short electroacoustic piece,
composed by requistion of Juliana França, for a dance
performance created by her. The idea presented at the requistion was
something like: "30 little pieces one after the other, each one lasting
1 second". The material of the piece basically contains excerpts of
sounds which, by some reason, could be associated with the color red
("vermelho" - as in the title, which could be translated as "Fragments
of Red", or "Red Fragments" - in portuguese).
"Ajudai?" is a piece from the forthcoming album by O "mundo" entre
aspas, album which will be called "Beatos". The album will contain
pieces based on material from songs by The Beatles. This piece
specifically, for two pianos and electroacoustic sounds, is based on
the song "Help!". Even though this piece will be on an album by the
band O "mundo", it was composed by me, and I also played both pianos
and made the electroacoustic manipulations.
