Puppetbox is a band. They are currently under the radar. In fact, both the radar and the band are unaware of each other. The band plays electro, rock, shoegazer, geek, pop music - and the radar continues to serve as a metaphor for bands that have made lots of money versus those that will forever be "emerging." In case you were wondering about the name of the band, puppetbox is either a device to control the minds of the hapless proletariat, OR we actually have a box full of puppets, both are probably illegal in Texas. The band recorded their last album in Zamunda, the Chateau de la Prétentieux, and with the hottest Japanese producer, ??? in Tokyo.
The new Puppetbox song "Done By Numbers" is featured in a Dominos Pizza commercial airing in Puerto Rico. Check out the spot!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some recent reviews of the band include:
"The song "Kimberly" reminds me a lot of old Weezer, say Blue era gone synthy. Especially the lyrics "You look like you could be much fun/you smell like bubblegum." Now this is a good thing." - Dreamsofhorse.blogspot.com
"I like the mix of rock and elctro sounds here. good guitar licks, and nice changes. fun and poppy, but still dark and geeky." redfizz.com
"This track (Kimberley) is pure fun!" - indiedontdance.blogspot.com
"John you are an emotional toddler" - a fan
"Just call that song all kinds of f**ked up" - music critic, Brian

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: thepuppetbox.com
Band Members: John Payne(guitar, vocals), Mark Annotto(drums), Chris Tempas(synth, vocals)

Below is the hilarious new music video for our song KILL YOU DEAD! This was from the twisted minds of the comedy group, Armed & Ridiculous

Influences: We're hesitant to list influences because it might let on that 1) we ripped off other bands or 2) we have horrible taste in music.
Sounds Like: Here are some sounds we would like to emulate. Jesus and Mary Chain guitar, feedback and distortion. This seems to be en vogue again and I am all for it. If one can learn to play feedback rather than just let it happen it is a skill The drums should fall in a wierd place between punk and old blues. That would be cool. The synth sounds incorporate vintage square and saw waves with pipe organs for a full sound that hits just about every resonance possible. And speaking of resonance we run a bunch of different filters and LFOs on the synth to create all kinds of complimentary and lead sounds. Finally, all the above is a pretentious wish list that may never quite pull together, but its good to have goals.

Where did the music go?

If you are one of those people who read bands' blogs you probably have 1) way too much free time 2) an unhealthy obsession with some chick in the band 3) realize that this music is the soundtrack to y...

An old one, but relevant in todays world

What many people don't know about Puppetbox is that we owe all our success to Tookie Williams. Tookie negotiated the truce that allowed two of our members, a Blood and Crip respectively, to lay down ...

November Tour

We saw a band that had a hundred tour dates down all with TBA. Not sure what that proved but if it is on myspace it must mean it is a good branding technique. Creating a recognizable brand for your ba...
