About Me
Whose fault is it? That’s what we’ve been asking ourselves for eons, and
haven’t got so much as a chirp or a whistle from any of the folks here in
glass city. Play it straight… What are you doing with your life? Can’t you
even count to ten? We’ve heard it, all of it, and in the worst possible way. We’re musicians.
Sure, we all have some predispositions to certain behaviors and attitudes.
Some of us like war sounds, people screaming, trucks and trombones, and
others like violent pillow fights and religious winds blowing blood thirsty
mosquitoes into our homes so we can smack the crap out of something and feel
good about ourselves. We’re Vamp. We probably fit into most molds.
Jason Tiemann (drums) and Jacob Duncan (alto saxophone) began making music
in a basement. Sure, there’s one or two of you saying, “So did I!! I’m just
like them!!...Cool…Tight….and Neato!!†Well, you’re dead wrong. We were
surrounded by slimy creatures pouring out of interdimensional port holes
with hairy faces and eyes on their backs. Each creature had 28 ears. We had
to play the tunes they wanted to hear, and man, they liked waltzes, and not
the cool kind. Yeah, we had to do that for a very long time. It sounds
god-awful, but we got paid. We put on a smile, and when some long haired
slippie creature came up and asked us to play at his/her tea joint, we said,
“No.†They said, “Don’t you just play for fun?†We said, “…and flowers?â€
Then we sent them packing. We play for survival.
Every moment means something to somebody, and luckily, being musicians, we
get to grab a piece of most lives from the background. People don’t even
know. What’s the music sound like? Well, maybe like people screaming to their
favorite song being played by a bad trombone player tackled by the
Australian rugby team, naked, in the shower. That’s just what I hear on the
corner of Krieger and Charles Streets in Frogtown (Germantown) at a little
place called, “Nach Barâ€.
If you’re looking for dirty, soulful, musically powerful, swinging, and
brutally honest dizzying artistry, Vamp will see you every Wednesday night
at Nach Bar.And yes everything you have read is true.
