As a TV personality and special correspondent for MTV, CBS, American Journal, FOX, and Telemundo; and a feature reporter for News, Inside Edition and NBC’s highly rated sports show ‘More Than A Game’, Heather delivers with extraordinary style. As a result, she has established close working relationships with several star athletes. Heather can often be found hitting the links with such friends as Charles Barclay, Ray Romano, Emmitt Smith and Sugar Ray Leonard. Her roster of celebrity interviews reads like a Who's Who list. The list includes both All-Stars athletes and entertainers such as Kobe Bryant, Cuba Gooding Jr, Will Smith, Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder, Kelsey Grammer, Barry Bonds, Magic Johnson, Matthew McConaughey, Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, A-Rod, and Venus and Serena Williams to name a few.
Heather Michaels knows the game - sports that is! But don't expect to see your average behind-the- desk talking head, Michaels brings a fresh approach to sports journalism. Not content to stand by on the sidelines quoting stats, Heather “joins the game” so to speak. “Sports reporting has become too predictable and rigid... the athletes’ individual personalities are often times ignored. I want to bridge the gap between presenting the facts and providing entertainment.” Refreshing and informative, Michaels’ style refutes the now common place “tabloid” approach to journalism.
The consummate professional, Michaels has long admired the savvy of Barbara Walters and Oprah Winfrey and many other veteran TV journalists. “I want to be the ‘Barbara Walters’ of sports/entertainment. And I am truly inspired by the way Barbara and Oprah relate to people and I want to bring that same integrity to the viewers, but with a different type of energy.” Heather has also been influenced by the styles of Chris Berman and Ahmad Rashad, who have brought a new focus to sports journalism. Watching the best at work, Heather developed a unique interview style all her own. One so impressive that it landed her the first, post trial interview with controversial former running back, O.J. Simpson. “That interview was important for several reasons, one of which, it allowed me to get beyond the sport and into the personal side of a very high profile situation.” Michaels’ love of sports, coupled with a sincere drive to provide viewers with quality entertainment, has earned her a great deal of respect.
During her interviews she allows the athlete to open up to their fans in their own way, giving the viewers a more personal connection. Michaels understands the delicate nature of dealing with superstar athletes. Her ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of personalities comes naturally. “The athletes trust me, they understand I'm here to get a story - their story... And I feel that approach gives me an edge.”
