Afif is the first-born son of Majdi and Nour Essi and brother to Eva, Majid and Hisham. He leaves behind a family who loved and cherished him: his girlfriend, Julie, who stood by him always; and man's best friend, Rex. Afif was a friend to all and a surrogate brother to Fice, George and Mark. He will be missed for the rest of our lives. Afif was a graduate of Nottingham High School and the proud owner of Mom's Diner. He also managed Tap's Bar. Afif had a bright smile that never faded and was always the life of the party. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Afif and Nadia Essi; maternal grandfather, Michael Zaher; uncles, Majid Essi, and John and George Zaher; and beloved aunt and godmother, Majida Kiefer. He is survived by his family and many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who have met him throughout the years. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at St. Elias Orthodox Church with the funeral on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. Elias Orthodox Church, on Onondaga Hill. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
