The band started under the name "Cured Leper" in 2004 and basically played midtempo thrash metal with death vocals back then. In the beginning our vocalist Gerfried also played the rhythm guitar (he had been playing metal on the guitar for 2 years). Thomas started playing guitar with the foundation of the band, he had only been playing a bit of bass before. Our first bassist Julian also started playing his instrument with the start of the band. Sebastian, the first drummer, had been playing drums for 3 years, but not any metal styles. As you can see, all in all those were not very good conditions to start an extreme metal band ;-)
In fact, during the first and second years, Sebastian didn’t rehearse on a regular basis with the rest of the band, so we were only able to create and finish five songs in all that time. Those songs were recorded in summer 2005 on just one day. This first demo had very bad production with almost unhearable guitars and very weird vocals, not to mention the tunes were played very slowly and the drumming was very boring :-P Some months later Gerfried stopped playing guitar in the band in order to be able to fully concentrate on the vocals, what actually turned out to be the right choice. Thomas was now the only guitarist and changed his style to a mix between lead and rhythm guitar. Then in the end of 2005 we had a serious talk with Sebastian and all the 4 of us decided it would be the best for all of us if he left the band because of our huge musicial differences and his lack of motivation.
Since then the rest of the band started to listen to more old-school and brutal death metal and also push the old material in that direction. That was absolutely not our old drummer’s style, so it was possible to modify the songs like that now. However, in the next four months the band was almost inactive, as we were almost unable to rehearse without a drummer. That situation lasted until spring 2006 when a drummer called Elias played some jam sessions with the guitarist Thomas. He had been hitting the skins for less than 1 year only, but he was very good already nevertheless. First he was only hired as a session drummer for some gigs, but he showed big talent and became such a good friend of the band that Thomas and Gerfried decided to offer him a permanent place in the band in June 2006.
With Elias joining the band it was like a new start. With this new and way more brutal drummer the overall style of the band changed totally into death metal with much more technical details than before. Because of these higher technical challanges and his lack of motivation, our bassist Julian left the band in summer 2006. Fortunately Thomas found a replacement very quickly, a young bassist named Theo. He joined 2 weeks before a gig in August and learned 7 songs in just three days! Afterwards the band went on working on some more new songs and played another gig in December.
In April 2007 the band recorded some of the new material in the professional rehearsal room of a friend of Thomas in Freiburg in southern Germany. In one and a half days the four songs for a demo had been recorded, however the quality turned out to be very good for our conditions.
A couple of weeks after the recording session the band considered a change of the band name and finally decided to now call themselves "Pesticides" in June 2007.
The 4 demo tracks + intro were released by ourselves on a promotional untitled demo CD-R, you can get it from us! Listen to samples of the tunes on this page.
Due to musical differences Theo left the band shortly after the recordings were completed and in January ’08 Benni joined the band as the new bassist. In February we played a great gig at the Blood Battle band contest in Lörrach check out the pix in "pics" ;-)
