Since their inception, the ecclectic mix that is Porcelain Militia have moved fast to create an established presence and sound on the Melbourne live music scene. Porcelain Militia's music, whilst comprising of many different sounds, stlyes and influences can at best be described as Alternative rock with a twist. Drawing inspiration and concepts from the world around them, past and present, musically and non-musically, one never knows what to expect from the PM crew when it comes to song writing, wether it be a slow undulating Alt ballad or a un-compromising full scale assult on the senses, PM are never lack-lusture. PM always provide an experience at their live shows with an energy that represents their many schizophrenic musical influences and diverse song catalogue, with provocative songwriting, tight musicianship, catchy hooks and unique counter melodies, it's easy to recognise the PM sound.
A Brief History :
PM was Founded in late 2003 by Guitarists Chris Connolly and Adam Klein (although at that time under a different name). Shortly after they were joined by new arrival (from across the Tasman) Ross McEwen-Page on bass, enabling the three to produce a prepossessing sound that forged a determination to write music together, Damian Coad was to be enlisted on the drums to complete the foundation and base for Porcelain Militia. Over the course of the next year of countless songs been written ...and forgotten, the boys decided it was time to get a vocalist, from which countless auditions ensued to find the right person for the job. Eventually the post fell on the very talented vocal stylings of ex 'Big Charlie' front man Jason Deane. Now having a complete band, the PM boys set out writing songs and preparing a demo to secure gigs. In March of 2005, they went into the studio to produce their 3 track demo. Porcelain Militia then played their first gig in August of 2005 at Ruby's Lounge in Belgrave, Melbourne. Other venues since have included (some multiple times) ; The Esplanade Hotel, The Corner Hotel, Rubys lounge, The Arthouse, The Rob Roy, The Palace, The National Hotel (Geelong) and a whole other host of venues throughout the greater Melbourne area. In the Second quarter of 2006 the unreleased single "Cataract killer' which was produced as a 'warm up' for the forth coming debut EP, made its way on to local community radio from which it received moderate airplay.
In addition to constantly writing new material, Porcelain Militia Released their debut EP 'The infant Structure' at the Espy Gershwin room in St Kilda to a capacity crowd on the 14 of April 2007. The first track off the EP Sleepeater made it to number 2 on Synfm's The Hoist and received airplay on both PRS fm and RRR fm. The second song off the EP 'Shot bird' was also featured on synfm's new and approved. Other appearances by PM have included Channel 31's Asyum tv and The Bendigo sonic arts festival
