Second Harvest of Greater St. Joseph’s mission is to give hope to hungry people through advocacy, education and food distribution.Second Harvest of Greater St. Joseph (Second Harvest), a private, non-profit affiliate of the America’s Second Harvest hunger-relief network, has been serving low-income residents in northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas since 1981. Second Harvest collects and distributes approximately 3.6 million pounds of food per year (that’s 2.7 million meals) through a team of 125 relief agencies in 19 counties; 15 in northwest Missouri and four in northeast Kansas. These agencies include church-sponsored food pantries, meal centers, low-income day-care centers, senior centers, and women’s abuse shelters, to name a few. Over 35 million pounds of food have been distributed to those in need during Second Harvest’s 26 years of operations.
