Here’s what discerning music folks are saying about Favorita!:
Massive event for any fans of Swedish Pop but Favorita stands well above such a limiting classification, even if it’s a very good one to to have attached to one’s music. Favorita is an out-right classic. Alongside a handful of other releases, this is contender for Top 5 honors for 2007, that simple.
Not Lame
Their sound, for the most part, only bears a passing resemblance to the sparkling, harmony-filled pop of Beagle, rather favoring a quirkier, modern rock style but without ever sacrificing an ounce of melodic integrity. It’s really great stuff, and both Magnus and the band are highly dynamic.

WOW! A very impressive debut release from this new label! Solid from start to finish - 19 tracks - the entire unreleased 12-song album plus single b-sides and alternate versions. A posthumous release done the right way! This is Swedish pop at it’s very best, with lots of hooks, jangly guitars, and harmonies very much present and accounted for! We’ve got a feeling that this one’s destined to be on a lot of peoples lists of 2007 "favorita" releases!
Kool Kat Musik
Recorded 12 years ago and never released due to label implosion Swedish quartet Favorita’s first-n-last album certainly deserves the headline: Buried Swedish Guitar-Pop Treasure Unearthed!
Parasol Music
There is a raw, frenetic energy to songs like “Seven Comforts†and “Now†which literally burst from the speakers with their tales of end-of-the-century disillusionment. The band slow down for the ballads like the simple love song “Innocence†or the closing lament “Well, It’s Only Painâ€, and they flex their considerable musical prowess on numbers like “Slowfox and Waltz†and “Surprisingly Cynical Crosswordâ€, a song which features an astonishing middle-eight breakdown which lasts close to 3 minutes. But it’s Magnus’s honest and understated voice which unifies these songs, not to mention his remarkably lyrical bass playing.

This is one of the all time great Swedish power pop CDs and an absolute must have!!!

9/10
“...Like Pulp, Supergrass or Manic Street Peachers, Favorita can hold it’s own to the punk-pop made during the mid ninties. In the middle of the album the melodies start to poke through the noise on "Slowfox and Waltz" and the relaxed ballad "Innocence." Other songs, like "Now" just demand to be played loud and it’s hard to resist the hook of the great chorus on "Left of right." Enjoy this recently unearthed treasure while it’s here! Excellent music for fans of hard guitar Brit-pop.

...upbeat powerpop rock’n’roll that sounds just as fresh today as I’m sure it did twelve years ago, back when it was first recorded.
It’s A Trap
Anyone remember BEAGLE? I sure do... They delivered brilliant powerpop and they home country was...Sweden. Anyway - after Beagle was no more the lead vocalist started this band called Favorita and I was one of the happy guys who got hold of their "album/demo" back when it was recorded, and that was - hold your horses now - twelve freekin’ years ago! What else can I say that this album is a must for everyone who loves classic Swedish modern powerpop in the same vein as Trampolines, Merrymakers and Beagle...I’m very happy that the album finally came out so I don’t have to play my freekin’ tape any more. Cause I have done that quite often actually with Favorita’s music. And that is a real good sign that the music is good when I take out an old bloody cassette from the shelf and play it a lot.

Favorita Bio:
Twelve years after it was recorded but never released, Popsicle Recordings is proud to present the sole album from Swedish indiepop pioneers Favorita. The brainchild of former Beagle and current Metro Jets frontman Magnus Borjeson, Favorita fell foul of record company politics on the eve of this album’s 1997 release and it never saw the light of day. The band split up, the album was forgotten.
With the recent success of Metro Jets’ singles (an album is supposedly in the works) and the ongoing interest in those two classic Beagle albums, we at Popsicle Recordings didn’t want Favorita to pass into obscurity. Sure, the album has circulated as a bootleg among discerning music lovers for five or six years, but an album this good deserves a shot at reaching a wider audience.
So we’ve dusted off the master tapes, added eight bonus cuts and both of the band’s low-budget videos, unearthed photos from the two promo shoots the band did and coaxed some inspired sleeve notes from noted Swedish journalist and blogger (and former Beagle drummer) Anders Mildner. The result is the definitive Favorita experience. Everything you could want to know about this exceptional but criminally short-lived band, there on one disc.
The album will be released very soon...send us a friend request and we’ll announce the release date as soon as we have it!
Meet our top friends...
Metro Jets is the band which Magnus from Favorita currently fronts with David Birde from Brainpool. Check out their single “The Morning Show†for a slice of pure pop perfection. Favorita’s keyboard genius Benjamin Peetre continues to make remarkable music in his spare time with a heavy Roxy Music influence while Fredrik from the band is now in Montag Mania , a Stockholm based band with a psychedelic mix of Swedish indie and Brazilian Tropicalia. Favorita drummer Conny Stade is a busy session musician in Malmo. He plays sometimes with our friends Mans Wieslander and Moonbabies . Popsicle Webshop is the website/record label behind the release of Favorita’s album and it’s owned and operated by Favorita’s biggest fan Luke Jackson who is currently recording an album of his own featuring Favorita’s Magnus on bass, Jens Jansson on drums and producer/multi-instrumentalist Christoffer Lundqvist both of whom play in the incredible band Brainpool whose last record, the sprawling double album rock opera “Junk†was recently staged for the first time in Los Angeles . Getting back to Favorita for a minute though, the album’s sleeve notes were written by former Beagle drummer Anders Mildner and multi-talented Canadian pop guru and graphic designer extraordinaire Dan Bryk is the man behind the album’s sleek digipack design. Back in the mid-90’s, Jarvis Cocker of Pulp liked Favorita so much he plucked them from obscurity to open for Pulp on their Scandinavian tour. Helena Josefson of the band Sandy Mouche has no direct connection to Favorita but her new solo album “Dynamo†is spectacular and we think you should check her out. Orphan Songs is a brilliant Swedish indie artists we love and Eggstone and The Motorhomes are great Swedish bands who you should be listening to even though they’ve split up. It’s A Trap is the Scandinavian music blog we read every day, and last but not least, we know better than to be a Swedish indie band’s myspace page without linking to the fabulous Jennie Abrahamson .
