About Me

Bricoleur is what I am. Collector of scraps: sappy, juicy,
unraveling, precipitous. Fragments I yearn together
to build what? A tisket? A tasket? No, I am not one
to nest, not one for whom the tucked-in, the tiggy, tiggy
touchwood matters overmuch. Not for me the serial
order of ducks floating their flotillas
of domestic bliss for all to see.
More for me, the branch detached, disconnected, where I,
forswonk, forswatt, into accolades of space swing out.
Not for nothing, I tell myself, snug rhymes with smug.
Of dizziness I make my locus amoenus. Upladder and down.
Of dizziness, my locus ille locorum. Oh, place of places.
So what if rungs are missing. Still rings out what unquiets
me most. How close are terror and pleasure.
Susan Mitchell from "Bird: A Memoir" in Erotikon

In search of adventure for the holiday weekend, Scott and I decided to take our first exploratory jaunt to St. Augustine, less than an hour north of us. St. Augustine was founded by the Spanish in 156...

Why Does Amazon suck?: A Rant

I've been a huge fan of Amazon for years. I'm guilty of more than my fair share of one click purchases. Usually, I buy books there. You would be amazed at how many critical essay collections and other...

Loving a Car

Is it completely irrational for a grown woman to choose to pour money into a car she already has, rather than buy a new car she could totally afford? I made the decision recently to buy a new car with...
