Hong Kong Dollar was originally a one man band, guitarist – singer Ben Van Camp has been composing and recording his songs for many years in Ghent.
The city of Ghent is not only known for its flower show called "de Floraliënâ€, but is also hometown for other great bands like Goose, 2Many DJ’ s and Soulwax.
Positive feedback from fellow artists convinced Ben to look for a band in order to create a more mature sound for his pop / soul / rock blend of music. The first results can be heard on this MySpace page, giving a good idea of what Hong Kong Dollar stands for. Soulful and funky rock influenced by The Shins, Ben Harper and Wilco.
Earlier this year, the jury of the international music contest BILBOROCK selected the band to play a concert in the Bilborock Hall in Bilbao, Spain.
Recently, drummer Jakob Nachtergaele and Esther Lybeert (backing vocals) joined the band. Later this year Hong Kong Dollar will play several concerts throughout Belgium.
