DAWN

Dawn, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an artist who uses life experiences to create her own unique sound and, in the process, allows the listener to a glimpse of her many faceted personality.Studies in classical piano formed the basis for her musical training, followed by Pittsburgh’s High School for the Creative and Performing Arts and vocal studies at the famed Berklee College of Music. An artist of varied tastes and musical interests, she has jammed with Roy Hargrove and Branford Marsalis, just to name a few jazz musicians, sang with Reggae, R&B, and Hip Hop bands and written and recorded in various genres.Dawn’s professional debut took place in Paris where she worked with some of the city's hottest Reggae and African artists. Her ability to sing in French, Swahili, Woloff, and Lingala made her a much sought after performer. Never satisfied in one sound or genre, she was soon featured with The Malka Family, a leading Warner Brothers recording group. Dawn’s popularity soon led to the release of her own dance single as "Katcall" on the MCA France label, and that of another single which was included on a compilation disc for FNAC Music. Recently one of Dawn's compositions, "Why Not" was included on Bobby Watson's Palmetto Records release entitled "Live and Learn".Her return to the United States gave her new challenges, most importantly that of parenthood and that gave her time to listen and absorb the ever-changing new sounds of the day. Today’s Dawn is an artist who, with the support of musicians such as her husband, Orrin Evans, Ralph Peterson, JD Walter and Duane Eubanks , has a special sound and wonderful experiences in music to share. Look for some exciting new music from Dawn in the very near future as she prepares for her upcoming release on IMANI Records.
