Drowning By Numbers

When you ask the band about their musical influences they drop names like
»Gang Of Four«, »The Clash«, »My Bloody Valentine«, »Wire«, »The Cure«,
»The Who« and »Bauhaus«. That..s understandable when you listen to the unpolished,
rough-cut arrangements. The music is like a rough sketch or a scrap- book
of ideas, raw and unbeatable in it's simple, uncomplicated charm. The excitement
does not lie so much in the detail of the music and yet such cleverly arranged
tracks have not been heard in quite some time.
During 2004 René Dohmen (Git) begins writing the first songs and some
months later, together with Markus Meyer (Bass) "Drowning By Numbers"
is formed . In August 2005 the band is complete with Frederic Latz (Git) and
Dany Dücker (Drums) when they meet for the first rehearsal.
Asking where the motivation comes from, you get the same resounding answer
from each band member: »We have the overwhelming urge to play live!«

There is hardly a song which doesn’t come up with any surprises, „plays“ with expectations and keeps suspense up to the last second in a complex manner. DBN doesn’t make music, which feels bound to blues but focus very concious on the tradition of the former Guitar-New-Wave. References to virtues of bands as Wire, Gang Of Four or XTC seem absolutely noticeable – without getting harm of it, because it isn’t just a copie but rather an artful variationen and combination until an own style will be cognizeable. Quotes of Krautrock ( such as Dany Dükers Jaki-Liebzeit-like drums) and Post- and Artrock respectively doen’t appaer untimely.. It affects actually the cover version „Evil Woman“ of ELO. Truly You‘ ve still never heard this song, demure and surprising at the same time. Finally : each DBN- Track is thereby a certain Hit“
