It's not what you do that defines who you are. It's who you are that defines what you do.

About Me

22-year-old man born and raised in Columbia, Maryland. I attended Calvert Hall College High School and graduated in 2004. Am currently attending Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, where I study Geology, with an English minor. Many people ask how that works, geology and english, but I can't help but see them as the same thing: interpretation, only through different media. My passions are quirky, but significant. I'll be pursuing a M.S. in geology and deciding what to do from there.I am very physically active. I try to workout regularly. I used to swim and play rugby, both of which I still enjoy every now and then. I love to play Ultimate Frisbee and Frisbee Golf, and play whenever I can nowadays, and always love to throw a disc around just to pass the time on a beautiful day. I also love ballroom dancing, and am a big fan of the latin dances: the Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa, and Tango. Don't be surprised if, when a great dance song comes on, I try to teach you the steps and be your Lead =P . Other activities I like are Texas Hold'em, Cribbage, and various old board games like Scrabble... and Star Wars Trivial Pursuit...I like to meet new people, and can be somewhat outgoing when I want to be. I usually go off of the feelings I get about/from people. I am honest and pretty direct. Sometimes I'm a harder egg to crack than others. But one thing that's sure is that I am a passionate, unabashed dork. I love what I study, love what I love, and can talk about it for a long long time.I love to read in general, so much so that I have made it my minor subject of study. Some of my favorite authors include Franz Kafka, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Ernest Hemingway, but my tastes vary from time to time. I believe in literature as a medium of change. Among my favorite topics are civil rights of minorities, including homosexuals, and in undoing the current dimorphic gender paradigm, which is based on a status quo of inequality and idiocy (but who am I, only a student, to judge). Right now I am in the middle of Albert Camus' "The Plague," a very interesting story about an Algierian port that is the focus of an outbreak of plague.Culture is another of my top interests, whether it be international culture or sub-American culture. I learn and experience more and more in these respects as I go through college. I believe it is important for people to not be afraid of differences; even to find pride and solidarity in the differences between each person. People need to not be so afraid of offending and not focus so much energy on being PC. I'm not saying go up to someone and say something racist or insultingly nationalist, but for people to learn and grow and realize the wealth that the world's people have to offer, they need to ask questions, no matter how ignorant they may seem. At least that person is seeking out the world, instead of forming their own uninformed opinions and acting in perpetuated ignorance. I am in love with Thai food and Thai culture, and am currently learning the language in hopes of going there for a few years. I hope to experience and embrace as much real, true diversity that I can in my life, and get away from the Western lifestyle that is the norm for this country.I am Air with a spice of Fire, and a splash of Water. The air shows in my train of thought, which blows from place to place in ways that only make sense to myself, my flakiness, my idealism and teamwork attitude, . Water shows itself in my intelligence and occasional indecisiveness. Fire manifests itself in my temper, self-confidence, pride, and positive self-image, as well as my sometimes cynical attitude, and acts opposed to water, allowing me to overcome moments of indecision. I often get carried away into the clouds and it is difficult to hold my interest for long. I love the journeys provided by a good book or story, and the highs and lows of a nearly indiscriminate music taste. I believe in the power of dreams insofar as they contain an abundance of information about myself and what is going on in my life, and how I feel about it in as unadulterate a form as the unconscious can provide. I am a Libra, born in The Week of Theater (III). - - -

You are the Fool card. The Fool fearlessly begins the journey into the unknown. To do this, he does not regard the world he knows as firm and fixed. He has a seemingly reckless disregard for obstacles. In the Ryder-Waite deck, he is seen stepping off a cliff with his gaze on the sky, and a rainbow is there to catch him. In order to explore and expand, one must disregard convention and conformity. Those in the throes of convention look at the unconventional, non-conformist personality and think What a fool. They lack the point of view to understand The Fool's actions. But The Fool has roots in tradition as one who is closest to the spirit world. In many tribal cultures, those born with strange and unusual character traits were held in awe. Shamans were people who could see visions and go on journeys that we now label hallucinations and schizophrenia. Those with physical differences had experience and knowledge that the average person could not understand. The Fool is God. The number of the card is zero, which when drawn is a perfect circle. This circle represents both emptiness and infinity. The Fool is not shackled by mountains and valleys or by his physical body. He does not accept the appearance of cliff and air as being distinct or real. Image from: Mary DeLave http://www.marydelave.com/
