ABBIE WARNOCK: THE PHOTOGRAPHS

About Me

I'm Abbie Warnock. I'm very friendly. I'm a professional photographer. I love it. It's my life.
I'm currently residing in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah... I put blood, sweat, and tears into my profession, I really don't know how to do otherwise. It consumes me, from the moment I wake up until the moment I fall asleep, every day of my life.
People have asked me how I approach photography, and I guess it's like this: I want YOU to see you how I see you. We live in an over-medicated world where people feel more and more ugly or worthless because of what our media industry tells us is beautiful, iconic, or talented...but i don't believe it. I'm on a career crusade to show the world how amazing each person really is. This life is constantly changing...things that are here today may not be tomorrow. Yesterday's gone, don't let your tomorrow become a wasted past.
YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL.
RECENT PHOTOGRAPHY ACHIEVEMENTS:

*1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, six Honorable Mentions, and 9 total Accolades of Excellence, WPPI International Print Competition (8x10), June 2006.
I'm not some cheesy photo alias or studio name, my real name is one with my product. If you can't stamp your own name on your work, you must not have much faith in it.
If you'd like to know when I've updated photos, you can subscribe to my blog, because I post new sessions in there all the time.
To the many people have taken the time to tell me that they like/appreciate my work, given words of encouragement, or offered help to persue things I'm after, Thank You. I am so grateful for you, you'll never know how much you help me. Thank You.
I LOVE music, it's the biggest influence on my art, by far. I can create an entire image, mood, look and feel from a song I'm listening to, and nothing is more fulfilling than to see that image come to life on photo paper. Music is the sound of my sight, and I continually strive to unite the two in my work. Pop culture is a continuing and ever-evolving phenomenon that I am always watching for inspiration and a new perspective on things.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:Q: What kind of camera do you use?
A: I shoot with a Nikon D200 and various lenses.
Q: Where did you go to school? It only has your high school listed on your profile.
A: That's because I only went to high school. I never went to college. I'm not saying that higher education is a waste of money or something silly, but I AM saying, there's more than one way to skin a cat. If you can't go to college, so what. Figure out another path to learning. If you really truly want something, you'll do what it takes to get it, even if it means going off the paved road and through the mud.
Q: Can you give me some tips?
A: This is a really broad question, and I don't feel at all qualified to answer it... I'm learning as I go, everyday. If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to shoot constantly, and to be your own biggest critic. Find your faults, learn from them, and avoid them in the next shoot. Constantly shoot. Always.
Q: What got you into Photography?
A: My high school photo teacher, Mr. Joel Pullan. He showed me that it was a way to make the public see things how you see them, and I really liked that.
Q: Do you have a website?
A: Click here to go to ABBIEWARNOCK.COMQ: If you could photograph anyone or work for any publication, what would it be?
A: I'll photograph Austen Saari because he won't let me, David Bowie because he's David Bowie, and Trent Reznor because his work has influenced so much of my work, and he'd be interesting to chat with between shots... and I would love to work for Vanity Fair Magazine.
Q: How long have you been taking pictures?
A: I picked up an SLR camera for the first time when I was seventeen, and have been going ever since.
:)

Television:

The Venture Bros., The Simpsons, and anything on the Science Channel. I've become an all-knowing nerd from that channel, it's great.

Books:

Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooey.

Heroes:

Annie Leibovitz, a genius photographer, and a GIANT influence on me.
I bought a ratty, torn up used copy of one of her older books in high school, and it literally altered my life and perception of the world around me forever. In a professional world run by men, she entered and took over, with a style completely recognizable and stunning. You have ALL seen her images, they have helped define pop culture for the past three decades, and she's in Vogue or Vanity Fair every month, even now. When I get to meet her, I WILL cry, she is such an inspiration to me. She showed me that there is beauty and epic icons inside EVERYONE. I really do not know where I would be or what I would be doing with my life right now if it weren't for her. My idol.
Herb Ritts, another genius photographer. Came from humble beginnings, taking photography at the local community college where he was living, when he got his big break by photographing Richard Gere and ending up in magazines all over the world....his black and whites are stunning, and like Annie, he knew exactly how to let the subject's personality make the picture. When he died, I bawled....I swore I was going to be his assistant or something, I wanted to meet/work with him so badly...I own his book NOTORIOUS, it is one of my prized posessions. He was amazing, and will always be special to me for making me want to photograph people.
