Climbing, Exploring the world, learning and experiencing new things, reading obsessively.
People who can look into the abyss but not fall into it.
Whenever I'm asked to identify specific preferences I forget them all. I like local music and I like supporting musicians directly. I'll listen to lots of things. I don't like the RIAA's approach to pretty much everything.
Most recently I enjoyed Pan's Labryinth, Walk on Water, and The Live's of Others, but strangely, this isn't a reflection of what I watch since I'm happy to watch lots of movies that have no social significance at all.
I don't really watch this -- who has the time?
In the world of fiction, I've recently enjoyed reading Margaret Atwood's "Oryx and Crake," Barbara Kinslover's "The Poisonwood Bible," Neal Stephenson's "Quicksilver," (though I like all his books), the same is true for Karl Hiassan, Helen Feilding's "Bridgit Jone's" series, Arundhati Roy's "The God of Small Things," David Liss' "The Ethical Assassin," Zadie Smith's "On Beauty." Ok, the list could go on...In the world of non-fiction, Mike Davis' "Planet of the Slums," McKenzie Wark's "Hacker Manifesto," Tom Hawley's "The Remains of War," and Elizabeth Gilbert's "The Last American Man" are among my recent favorites.I could go on... and on...
Peter Kropotkin and Shulamith FirestoneI'm sure I'll think of more.
